If ya really want to get around the rivet heads..go get one of those sanding sponges..they do rip and tear after awhile..but really do a great job for hard to reach areas like under the chines and them pesky rivets.........

To what areas do I need to apply Gluvit to? Do I need to apply it to where ever there are rivets?

Thanks! We had been through that already but I freaked out because I wasn't getting anywhere with the sanding. I blame it partly on the 110 degree weather we've been having lately. I think it corrupted my judgment. :D

OH, NO! I was looking at my boat on the starboard side and I noticed something weird on the hull. I got closer and it seemed like there was something red on there. I decided to apply a little bit of stripper on it and then disaster struck. My boat had graffitti on it and the PO just spray painted over it. So I think I'm just gonna strip the entire hull. :(

I've seen plenty of tags sprayed on freight cars here in the midwest...when did gangs start hitting aluminum boats?!?:D

Are you going to use sand or walnut shells to strip the hull? I've been using a wire brush and sandpaper on my tin can.

I used Aircraft paint stripper on it and it took most of the paint off. I'm going to sand the rest of it lightly and hopefully that will do the job.

How many cans of zinc coating will I need, roughly?

I used 10 on my 18' starchef, but I had the cuddy to do. BTW, do you have pics of that upper windshield trim?

I think you will find the Aircraft Remover to do the trick. I am working on an old aluminum Texas Maid, and the recent layers of paint just push off with the first application using a plastic putty knife. Then go back over with more AR and a 0 steel wool pad to clean up any stubborn original paint. Works well on rivets. But armor up: Jumpsuit or at least long sleeves, strong chemical resistant gloves and eye protection. I probably should be using a respirator, but it is outside and I haven't.

I wasn't looking fordward to stripping all the paint but might as well. I'm not stripping the zc that's on there. I'm just going to put more zc on top of that one.

I raised the deck about 6 more inches. I think it feels and looks much better. What do you guys think?

This is how it used to look like before I raised it.

Evildoc did you need the extra bilge space to fit the gas tank below? That should give you tons of storage down there...are you planning on having a few hatches for coolers/fish wells? Looks good:D

The gas tank used to fit down there before. We decided to raise the deck some more because we believe the higher deck is more suited for fishing. We plan on making a fish box directly infront on the deckspace of where the cc will be. Then some storage up front on the most fordward space on the bow.

I want to make more storage on the deckspace behind the cc seat, but my dad prefers to fill that space with foam. That's his main concern is having foam in there. I tell him that even if we make to storage boxes below the deck, we will still be able to put enough foam down there. So we're still debating that.

Then the engine box.

My dad is a carpenter/construction so all the wood stuff is like he says, "Piece of cake."

I like this pic because you can appreciate the space it has.
