Congrats!!!!!!!!!

I quit decades ago. Keep up the running. You will want a smoke for years. DON'T DO IT!!! I am still running at 65. How many of your friends can run 2 miles? Enjoy your new found freedom.

Congrats. We must have quit about the same time. My last one was April 23rd. Every now and then I still get the urge, but never give in. I just keep thinking of the money saved and years I'm getting back. Good luck!

I quit 41 days ago today. I had ankle surgery 3.5 weeks ago, so still rehabbing. Got in the pool for the first time yesterday and did 400m. Did 800m today. I was running 7-8 miles a day when I hurt the ankle. Even in the short time since I quit, I can definitly breathe better. Can't wait to start running again. If you feel the urge, hit the road and run the urge out of yourself.

Congrats. How did you (and all that posted above) quit? My problem is that I'm not at the "100% I wanna quit" stage, but I'm closing in on it.

I bought my 1st boat with cig money. Back in 1990 I quit smkn on my 30th Bday. Was burnin a pack and a half to 2 packs a day. I crunched the #s and figured I was spending $1100-$1200 a year on cigs. Found a 86 Thundercraft 4.3, that hadnt been in the water for 2 years. Bought it for $5500.00 came w SS prop, cover, skis and life jackets. Figured about 5 yrs of cig money would by it.. And I pulled it off!!! That was my 30th bday present to myself-quit smoking and bought a boat.. Happy Bday 2 Me! Still have that boat and its been real good to me. Congrats 2 u!!!!!!!!! Ive had a few setbacks Out of the last 18 yrs I smoked for about 2 years. Not for the last 7 tho :D

I had gotten to the point of having bronchitis about once a year. I felt a mild case of it coming on in April. I said to myself, you know what, @$%# this $%^&. I threw that last 1/2 pack away and didn't look back.

The withdrawal sucked for about 3 weeks. After that I still had cravings but reminded myself what I just went through and thought about the positive aspects of it.

Oh yea we started biking too. Both of us got new Trek hybrid bikes. (She quit smoking too!) So far our longest ride has been 26 miles. It's been so hot these last few weeks that we haven't ridden much. We do plan to ride some this weekend though.

We're about to finish up the 8 week beginners running plan at Runners World. The last day you run 30 minutes straight. That will happen this Saturday while we are camping in the North Georgia mountains. Should be interesting.

We ran on a track yesterday and it works out that I'm doing a little over 2.5 miles now. Yesterday was run 26 min, walk 1, run 3.

We're going to the Seafood Festival in Apalachicola FL on Nov 5th. It's a long time family tradition since my grandad was a shrimper from there. Anyway, they have a 5K race there every year called the Redfish Run. We're training to do that and maybe some more 5K races in the fall.

That's probably more than y'all wanted to know, but there it is!:D

Re: 4 months ago

between myself and the wife we were 2 packs a day and sometimes more than that. So after doing the math and when she told me she was pregnant (we were trying) well we both threw what we had left away and quit cold turkey. Let me tell you, that was an interesting weekend to say the lease. Good luck to anyone trying to quit, it is very hard, but do your research and create a plan of attack and it can be done.

Re: 4 months ago

mine was just a timing issue. got up on Sun morning and had smoked all the cigs Sat night. Figured I'd try the day without any, if I could make it through then I'd go to work on Mon without a pack. Never did go buy another pack.
certainly not easy, was smoking two packs a day and had for many years.

We ran a 5K road race on Saturday. Nobody was chasing us or anything like that.:D

I ran it in 31.something minutes and she did it in 35 flat. There was a tough hill somewhere near mile two. We're running a 5K trail run on the 25th which is supposed to be flatter. And the one coming up on Nov 5th in Florida with be flat for sure.

Keep going.

I quit in 1979, then started again in 1982. Then I quit again September 23, 2008, had a quadruple heart bypass on September 25, 2008. I'm still suffering from the surgery. I don't have the same stamina, strength or energy I had before the surgery.

I am one of the very few, around 10%, who do not totally recover and have a better life without cigarettes in their life. My scare is constantly an issue, it is sore and looks as though I had the surgery a week ago.

I'm only saying this so you keep in mind that cigarette smoking will kill you!!!

KEEP IT UP!!!
