4 prong 5 wire plug end? Does it still exist?

My 1987 EZ loader trailer has the 5 wires going into a 4 prong end. Someone bent the plug and a few of the wires broke off right at the base impossible to get a proper connection. Now of course usually could buy a new end and wire it in. But I can't seem to find a 4 prong, 5 wire end. All are 4 wire and 4 prong. Or is there a way for me to wire a 4 wire in??

i would think you can wire a 4 in. as two wires are the tailights. can be hooked togather. yellow and green i think are the stop. the brown ate both tail im i find myself correct. are hooked togather.

The 5 wire plugs are usually for trailers w/ surge disc brakes. The 5th wire goes to the reverse lockout solenoid that keeps the disc brakes from engaging when backing up, when the tow vehicle is pushing on the surge brake master cylinder. Disc brakes will apply equally well in forward and reverse, as drums are not applied (usually) in reverse. That 5th wire is usually wired to the tow vehicles backup lights.

And yes, they are readily available. IBoats has them, http://www.iboats.com/Extension-Har...7394914--session_id.658007299--view_id.170225 (this one is an extension that you can cut as needed, as thier ads show a Sierra 5 wire connector plug pictured, but only list 4 wire available) as do trailer parts suppliers, and most auto supply places that carry an inventory of trailer parts / harnesses.

there are 4-prong plugs with 5 wires, where the running light (brown) has two runs, one for each side. there are also 5-prong plugs where the 5th wire is for the reverse solenoid.

No it's not, And the trailer does have brakes, but like I said it has the 5 wires into 4 prongs, and my truck is also four prong, not five. And I did look at Peavy Mart, Princess Auto, Canadian Tire, and no one had the 5 wire, 4 prong. Just 5 wire, 5 prong, or 4 wire, 4 prong. If I can simply combine two of them like the first response was, that could work, long as I know that is doable and won't screw up anything.

just splice both brown wires from the trailer to the brown wire from the plug and go boating.

The current connector on the trailer with the two wires running into one pin, some smaller trailers are wired this way. Instead of using one wire that splits off further toward the rear of the trailer to power the running light circuit, your connector simply joins both brown wires directly at the pin. So you can simply run the brown wire to the running and side clearance lights as needed. You can either split the circuit into two legs, and run one leg down each side of the trailer, or run one wire down one side of the trailer, to the rear, and up the other side picking up each lamp as it goes.

Something does not make sense!
If you have brakes, you need 5 wires.
The 5th wire operates the brakes if they are electrical, or disables the brakes in reverse if they are hydraulic surge brakes.

If you have 5 wire going to 4 pins, one of the pins has 2 wires on it.
You effectively only have 4 wires/circuits, it is just split at the connector instead of in the harness, and any 4 wire connector will work.

Which wire is the double? Brown?

Pin#1 = White = Ground
Pin#2 = Brown = Tail Lights
Pin#3 = Yellow = Left Brake/Turn
Pin#4 = Green = Right Brake/Turn
Pin#5 = Blue = Brakes or BackUp (Brake Disable)
