Hey Bob. It's nice finding some time for the boat. It takes my mind off of things. I can feel it today though after the sanding, crawling under the bow, etc.

More pics coming up.

Here's a shot of the roller I used and the second coat of the deck.

After I roll the smooth it will be sick. The textured just made it on the thin side with a gallon as I didn't do too much on the bow area.

The first deck pic is after the first coat and the others are after the second.

Here's the cleanup afterwards.

There is also a shot of the Jensen waterproof stereo enclosure.

I tried to scracth the floor after three hours of set time and it was on there good. Since this stuff cures totally up to six days later it should be indestructable but I'll report back later with some tests in an area out of the way.

Here two more shots of the bling like the stern light socket and the 3/4 inch fitting for the bilge output.

I need something to fill that 1/2 opening but I can't find any fittings in the 1/2 size.

Hey sprintst,
That deck looks pretty good right now without the smooth. I really like the looks of that motor setting in that sea of white. Very cool.
That shot really shows of the shine too my friend. It really looks great.
Nice work.

Thanks Bob. Hopefully I get some good weather for a bit so I can get the batteries mounted, gas tank in there, etc.

Need the epoxy to set on the ladder area so I can coat everything with the smooth.

I'll head out in a bit and test fit my gunwale supports and fill the old holes in them and drill some new ones.

You might go to an auto supply store and look at those round plastic plugs they use to hold trim together. Just pop in and may need waterproofing. Just an idea not the best solution.

Ok, from what I can see that Durabak looks great. But man, I just can't seem to get the full effect without touching it, kneeling on it, you know that sort of stuff. Can you swing by so I can check it out?

We're having brats on the grill tonight:D

By the way your stern deck looks sweet!

Hey Sprinter, nice paint work - love that dark blue rear deck and transom. That 1/2 inch hole looks like a perfect place for a ski hook or similar - you could always put one on the other side to make things look "planned"! :D

Hey guys. I will figure something to dress up that opening on the side. I may look for my old gas tank vent and put that in. Then it will match both sides :)

I checked on the Durabak after letting it setup fopr a day and it's on there reeeaalll good. I tried to pick at it and it is there for good. It easy enough to crawl around on with jeans but not sure with shorts. The nodules are not too large to dig into skin.

I did it with a gallon just to get the texture as I'm going over top with smooth. I'd say a gallon and a quart would just barely make it. Resist the temptation to put it on too thick as you just want to spread the nodules around. The second coat will get the rest.

I test fit the gunwale supports and what not and will post pics later tonight.

Sprintst, I am also considering using the durabak. What made you decide to do a top coat of smooth?

I read from another on the forum that he top coated with smooth to take a tad off the roughness and to make it easier to clean as the nodules will hold dirt. I wanted it to be easy to walk around in bare feet as well. I'll just have to make sure to not coat it too much to fill over all the granules.

I'll also be doing my ladder area and the inside storage area in the gunwale supports in smooth to make it easier to wipe clean. Durabak apparently sticks to itself quite well.

Here's some pics of the test fitting. I used t-nuts though the side so that everything will bolt right in.

The sides look rough but are encapsulated in epoxy and the scratchy areas are where I hit it with a belt sander.

Hey Sprinter, you've gotta love that car type console - if you've already let us know what you're doing with that, then apologies, I missed it, but what ARE you going to do for your helmsman? :D

The dash area will get redone with some electronics like the fish finder, old xbox mounted under the bow area with output to cheap lcd car tv. There will be the stereo of course, Siruis sattelite radio and ipods for music.

I'll probably wait until the spring to pull the dash and replace with the Aluminum one I bought off of ebay from an 83 Starcraft.

That ought to cover it :)

If all that test fitting works then everything goes to upholstery this week.

Cool - an alloy dash will really suit the styling and colour scheme.

sprintst,
It's looking really good. It looked like everything was fitting pretty good. So, are you panning on splashing her yet this year?
Good luck and take care

In a week or two it will get down to zero overnight so I better get a move on.

I think I'll just get the tank and filter mounted along with the batteries and some wiring for this year.

I'd like to have the sides and back piece in and upholstered so I can get the garage empty :)

Crazy isn't it! I actually have a fire going in the fireplace right now as it's a little chilly/rainy (well for my wife anyway). Had one two nights ago too!

I was thinking that you could install a Slurpee spigot there but your idea is ok too I suppose.
