Just got back from my sons soccer tryouts. I'll be rubbing the floor down in Xylene and will get the first coat down.

Well. I got the first coat of smooth down on the storage area inside the gunwale area, coated the ladder and some of the wood.

I also got the first coat down on the floor and it started to rain. I managed to get it all covered up,

I guess we will find of if Durabak keeps in the can overnight. I poured in some Xylene to keep it thin and closed the lid. We will see if it turns to cement overnight

Bummer on the rain, I hope it's still usable when you open it up again. That stuff ain't cheap, I would hate to see you lose it.

The Durabak was still in good shape with the Xylene I mixed in. Wasn't even a hint of a skin on it.

I gave it another coat and coated the ladder, etc as well. I'll keep a bit in a small can or jar to see if I can keep some for touchups.

The smooth definately shows screw ups more but should be easier to clean. I coated some of the wood and probably should have done a coat in the textured first as it is hard to make it look perfect.

The side pockets came out ok but when the gunwale supports are on you won't be acle to see most any of it anyway. The led lights that will be going in the pockets should really light up.

Need the floor to dry up nice as it goes in on Wed for winterizing.

I dug up my old gas tank vent and installed it in the extra 1/2 hole on the other side of the baot.

More pics of the ladder, etc.

I like the look. It should make cleanup a lot better.

And more pics.

The bow area isn't perfect but that is for storage anyways.

The rivets and overlap on the fiberglass between sheets shows a tad but the rivets, etc should be under set boxes and what not but the coverage of the Durabak is great.

The stuff is really on there and the smooth took a tad off the roughness so it should be easier to keep clean.

I might have stayed with just the textured on any other colour except white. I took a look and in the original pics the gallon wouldn't have made it for what I needed. A gallon and a half may have just made it but when I covered it in smooth the gallon was just right.

I must have a pint left of the smooth as it goes a lot further over top the sealed surface.

The textured wouldn't have been hard on the feet but would eat up a sponge if you tried to drag it across the deck.

There was a hatch of what looked like fruit flies and they were falling out of the sky from the smell of the Durabak. It does have a bit of a smelly feet stink to it.

I covered it up real fast as the bugs were dropping left right and center.

I've done the exact opposite of what one should do to keep the cost down.

Rebuilt engine, new carb, new starter, new plumbing, new fittings, auto body shop top paint, rebuilt leg, all Mercruiser parts, epoxied everything, marine plywood, Durabak textured and smooth, upholstery shop work, Interlux bottom paint, stainless steel nuts and bolts, custom wiring harnesses, led lighting, etc.

The dash will get redone in some custom switches in the alum dash that still has to be painted.

The danger of spreading the restore over a long period of time is that the costs are spread over time as well. If I had slammed it then I would have balked at the costs

The boat will be for my boys and their kids one day so it's a ton of money well spent hopefully.

Two kids in elite level soccer and one on the volleyball team. All will go for crosstraining sessions for strength and conditioning sessions on top of tournaments, etc. I just finished writing cheques for everything.

The boat expenses are starting to look more attractive all the time. Guess I'll have to dig my own worms for bait to save a few bucks. I may also have to start drinking real generic beer

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. Two boys sailing at national and the middle one at club level made the motor boating look decidedly inexpensive! Still, they're all grown up now so the expenses have MOVED out!!! Yay.

I have to drink generic beer down here - the Moleskins and Labatomies are very exxy if you can get them!

And it's a wonder why I work crazy ot to pay for it all.

Looking forward to taking off with the boat for a couple of days with just the ipod going and some fishing till dark or later for those lunker rainbows. I'll be having a full camper Sunbrella top made with stainless hardware, etc and wiil be camping in that boat for sure.

I've got some hold downs for a cooler that will be going in the bow. There will be some Molson's, Labatts, Kokanee, Keiths, etc in that thing as well. Mostly pop while on the water and will dig into the good stuff when docked for the night.

Hey Sprinter, sounds like a plan. I was going to do the same but I've lost my ipod... D'OH! Guess I've have to do it the old fashioned way and take CDs!

Mate, if we boated here with our eskies (coolers to you) in the bow, the Moleskins would be exploding within minutes! I keep my big cooler in the stern under the rear bench seat to stop the shaking!

For your next OS trip you should bring t'other 'alf and visit us here in Brisvegas! You bring the good stuff and I'll provide the boat and camping gear!

It definately looks amazing there.

The wife would love that trip as well as long as the flight doesn't get us. I'll have to look at how I can do the trip with a stop along the way.

Cool. Best times of year are Sep-Nov (ie right NOW, yippeee!) and late Feb-Apr. Dec/Jan/most of Feb are HOT! But you're welcome any time if you bring the good stuff!
