Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Happy New Years everyone.

I hope you are all staying safe...

I managed to get the tarps pulled down and put just the plastic sheeting up. Less weight for the pvc to hold up and allows more light in. My own little green house......several species of fly liked it.

I am almost completed with the demo!!!!!!!!

Only have the transom/bilge area and balsa core in one section under the tank to remove and I am done cutting things out. I should be able to get this completed tomorrow. Then I will be mia for 2 weeks. Hate to say it, but think I could use the break.

Today's progress:

What are these wires for? Does not look like they have been used in some time.

Happy New Year's to you and your Family, Troop...

Man you are Cruisin on you demo...Great work!

As far as the wires you mentioned in the pics...I would guess two possibilties...Trim Angle Sending, as previously mentioned and if one of them is tube/hose-like, Speedometer Pressure Sending Tube.
But you could go to the I/O Forum Thread and ask those guys, they prolly know...

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Went to HF this am, right as soon as they were open, to get a couple more blades. I wanted to get one of the course tooth blades to tackle the balsa core. Also picked up another HSS metal/wood/plastic blade.

The Japanese style blade worked wonderfully. Sadly, it did not hold up long - it was only Bi-metal. Wish they had those in HSS. I ended up hitting it with my cutoff wheel to put some teeth back on it. Worked OK, but had to keep doing adding teeth/sharpening it. Took much longer than I had hoped to get the kel section under the gas tank cut out. I did get it though, 6.5 hrs later....whew!

Once I get back from my trip I can get started on the bilge area then the transom. Want to do bilge area first to get the oil soaked glass up. I have been trying to stay off of it as much as I can to avoid contaminating other areas of the hull.

I am getting excited to get the rest ot the demo done so I can get started on the rebuild. I will have tons of questions once that starts.

Looking pretty good, if I do say so myself.

hi bud....those wires are trim senders....

that is a real drag......

they are very spendy little things....

once the inner plate comes out and the bell plate comes off they will be easy to change.......you could just splice the wires instrad of a replace.....but if the wires are cut right beside the sender......its toast.

Thanks Oops!

This might explain why the previous owner said that there was an issue with the auto trim. There was nothing attached to these. I will check it out when I get back...

be very careful when you re install them.......it is very easy to pot the wires thru the wrong hole and bolt the inner plate up. that will kink the wires and break them.....

so make a mark in that little hole...so you remember what it is for.

Thanks Allen, same to you and fmaily.

The stringers come out pretty easy. Mine were a little tough in spots due to the woven roving that was used, had huge bulges and I had to make 2 or 3 cuts to get down to the hull to seperate them. From the looks of your pics, you shouldn't have that issue.

Hey troop, just a thought on those trim wires that are buggered up...you can repair them with 100% success if you use the following method...

Works perfectly when you don't have room for butt splices and heat shrink...

Ends up stronger than the original wire.

That's a cool little speedy boat you posted the link to.Not familiar with those.

When you need to go in or out of your boat, toss an old tarp in there to keep stuff off the freshly cleaned areas.I use an old canvas style painters drop cloth.Every once in awhile I take them to the laundry mat for a good wash. They're to big for my machine.Hang'em out to dry.

Hey Trooper,

Looks like you may have some MBS in your future! :p ( Multiple Boat Syndrome )

I downloaded Google Sketch-up! What a great help for designing decks and such! Thanks for the tip!

Now I have a use for 2 of thetarps I pulled down. One I am covering the motor with.

Great idea, I like!
