That is the one I thought you meant Wood.

JB - This should help pay for some plywood for sure.

Troop,

Good news on the compressor, now just make sure you have everything planned out as much as possible, so you can use it the least amount of time...I would ask the rental company if the rental is a 24 hour rental, or if it is a day to day rental...meaning, 24 hr.=pick-up at 9 AM, return at 9 AM next day...day to day=pick-up when they open, drop off before they close the next day...

Also, don't forget to check the HD and Lowes, to see if they have any tool rentals available...

Check around with any sandblasting operations in the vicinity and ask if they rent out there equipment, or even what it would cost to have your trailer done...might even be cheaper than renting all the equipment, running around time, gas, etc...

Still have to figure out a solution for spray painting, but maybe still be worth renting the big compressor for an all day spray session...

Lastly, go to a couple of local marinas and talk with some of the guys and see if you can get a decent connection for the resin, maybe an offer of some beer might do the trick......

Still thinking of other solutions for the resin...give me a day or two and I will try and come up with a possible solution...has to do with a trucker I know that runs the Florida to California route...

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Lots of rain was in our forecast this weekend, so I did not rent the air compressor and welder. Turns out yesterday was 0 rain for us here. Today late in the day we got some heavy rain. I should have rented the equipment. The trailer is rusting where I used the wire wheel on it. Looks like I may be able to get it done Wed or Thu this week.

In the meantime, I decided to try my hand at upholstery. I am no way even close for this kind of thing, but wanted to get some practice in.

Headed to the local fabric shop where I found some remnant vinyl. Picked up some heavy gauge needles, nylon thread for the wife's sewing machine and some heavy nylon string to make some piping. Early tries at the piping I found I needed to make the material a little wider than I started out with. My scissors did not cut the vinyl very well where I had to make the corners on the cushion I made, so it bunched up a bit. I also had to fabricate my own piping foot. The machine, a Simplicity "Quilter's Classic" came with a plastic foot that I used, took a file to it. Worked rather nicely. The machine is not meant for heavy material either so where the cord met and the final stitching after the cushion was stuffed is a little messed up. I could have spent a little more time filling the cushion too.

All in all I am happy with how it turned out. I wanted to see if I had what it takes to sew, I think I can do it. Might help to have a machine meant for the heavy material though.

Looks good Troop! Maybe a little more stuffing. You could make more and sell em for couch cushions! Install little noise making devices for customized whoopee cushions!!:D :D

Dang it Troop, this is your first time sewing???!!! Man, you are a natural...

If you end up sand blasting the trailer, a little surface rust won't hurt anything, just make sure you are set to shoot some etching/sealing primer on it as soon as it is cleaned up...the humidity we both live with is unforgiving...

Have a great week...

Hey, that matches the camel color I was thinking of using on my interior, can I PM you some dimensions & get a few more made?:D

Did you try WOG's suggestion of pre-stapling the vinyl around the cord when your making the cording? I understand that the correct term for this is baste-ing (sp?), but I reserve the use of that term for any & everything going to be cooked on the grill.

Cushion looks great for a 1st go! Well done. Sewing machines are fairly easy to find fairly cheap. Goodwill, thrift stores & CL are good starts. Ebay gets pricey when you add shipping, these things weight 30+lbs.

1st coat of primer is on the trailer.

1st time ever using a spray gun. Took a little while to figure out what all the knobs do.

Maybe should have read the instructions?

Didn't turn out too bad.

Hoping it doesn't rain tomorrow. I will get second coat on and hopefully get some color on it too.

There's no paint on the dog so I'd consider it a success.

Good thing I wasn't in the pic :)

Thanks SP, renting the air compressor so I would like to get it done tomorrow. Only like a 30% chance of rain.

Let me know if you need help the the gun settings.

WoG - not exactly sure how to properly set it up. Took me 10 minutes to find that I had fan horizontal instead of vertical. Lol I was cranking on everything woth no change in width of fan. I will be using Valspar implement with hardner tomorrow. What settings would you suggest? Also what pressure should I be using at the gun?

Good looking spray job Trooper.
Liked what you did with the pillow. Looks really good for a first time. Hope no one finds out about the custom foot you made for the piping. (little lady)

This will help
http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/techinfo/HVLPspraygun.html

For me, I set the compressor @ 100 psi set the gun around 35 psi set the spray to full stream and then back it off till it just start to fan nicely. I then start to play with the paint volume until it flows like I want. There's a certain sound that you hear when it all comes together. Once you hear it and see how the paint flows, you'll remember it. Note the settings and the way you mixed the paint and you've got it!!!!!

Thanks Woody, this worked out pretty close to how I had it set up when I put the primer down. This gun really does a good job.

The first layer of paint I put down had some heavy spots coming out at first, but got it dialed in.

I am waiting on the first coat to dry so I can get the second coat on.
So far the weather is holding out.

The link was very useful too. I think I will have to work on the volume a little for the next coat.

Here is the first coat.

I tried to keep it "light"

Black? How are we supposed to tell if you kept it off the dog? You were supposed to spray the trailer bright yellow or white!

Really looks good, and just a light 1st coat for coverage.

Hope the weather holds out for you to get it completed expeditiously & return that compressor, that leaves more for glass, poly & boat paint fundage!

Would some stripes help?

Thinking about adding some.....

The dog will look like it is bleeding if I hit him with the stripe paint.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Wow Troop,
You are doing a bang up job ...if you hadn't admitted to being a noob at painting, I would'a mistook you for a pro...Very nice!

Glad to hear the weather is cooperating...

Puter's been acting up last couple of days, but I wanted to get back with you on my previous offer regarding my truckin buddy...

His truck's in the shop and bizness is slow...he doesn't know when he'll be doin the East-West run, at least not any time soon...he's hooked up a gig inside the state, so he'll be doing that till things pick up again...but he did tell me that if he makes the coast to coast run, he'll let me know, and that he would be happy to transport stuff...

Anyhow, if I get the word I'll holler at you...

Keep up the great progress.
