Prep is everything with Durabak! the surface must be sanded with 40 grit and not look smooth at all, free of any oil or wax residue. The stuff is indestructible... Remember if you use multiple coats of texture, it's gonna be too much. One coat texture, and top coat with non -textured... I think the cream color would be great! The white was too bright in the sun... It will be fine with your interior colors, and if you add snap in carpet, you could go with a grey or light tan, or light brown and the contrast would be cool! You boat is looking so killer! I can't wait to see the new 5.7 in there!!!!!!!!!!!

Great idea with deck drain!!!!!! Washing / rinsing the deck will be so easy! Make sure the hole is coated/sealed. Not sure about holes for tank? I may leave them if it was me... I hate the idea of water anywhere it shouldn't be. You could install those round screw on cover access hatches?

I have the round screw on plates. I was just wondering if I should cut them out or not.

So my Dad was over here tonight and he said that the grey is what I need to go with.

My Sea Ray is a gray, works pretty good at hiding dirt and the crud that seems to find its way into the engine compartment.....but then being an architect I should shut up right now on colors....we can go on for hours!

I would leave the tank holes sealed for now. If you need to get in them later you can cut them then.
I am gelcoating my bilge and skilocker white for 2 reasons. I have white that I dont need anywhere else and It will make it lighter an d easier to find problems.

wait a minute, I was thinking about the bildge coat.....not the duraback....I forgot you had already put on the bilge coat.....still same comment, I think the gray will look cleaner after a day on the lake. That being said, I learned a long time ago not to pick out colors on the computer....the color never looks correct on your monitor.

Amen to that. I had them send out samples. Both colors look great, but with all the grey that will be inside the boat, I think the cream would just clash. I wanted the lighter color in the bilge to spot problems and it helps out with light when you are ***** up inside looking around at the lake.

Does any of the mods know if we can embed a youtube video?

That is why ppg and dupont will not put color chips on their websites. Unfortunately I need something to go by for my choice in gelcoat colors and have actually asked the company to email me pictures of the three yellows they make. a slight difference in monitor rendering is better than going by; sunshine yellow, bright yellow, or yellow.

Yeah Frisco I would leave the tank sealed as well until you have to get to it, my only concern is ventilation and fumes. Other than that water has no way of getting in. Your boat looks great. This is a very exciting build.

Well, good luck on the Durabak. Prep is everything, certainly, however, I can tell you, mine was prepped correctly. I won't use it again.

If I still had the boat, I'd take pictures, no thanks. Maybe the textured holds up better than the smooth, which is what I used.

Good luck Frisco, let us know how it works for you.

I wonder is that was the problem. I plan on using the textured version.

New video coming up!

Oh how I hate fiberglass. I spent all day leveling out the deck for Durabak. All I can say is I am tired of the stuff. I think I have one more day of prep to make it perfect. I will order the durabak I will lay it down next weekend.

Here is the video from today.

And a picture. In this picture you can see where I have put down some "peanut butter" to fill in some low spots. I will sand those down tomorrow.

I also put another coat in the engine bay.

friscoboater,
Once again nice video.
Nice job on the remodel too. It always makes you feel so much better when you do it yourself and it turns out right.
I really don't like playing with the glass either. :(

Looks awesome dude!

All the glass dust gives me flashbacks!

Remember if you use multiple coats of textured Durabak, it may be too much. One coat texture, and top coat with non-textured... I did three coats of texture, and wished I had only done one, two at the most. A top coat of non-texture would have made cleaning up loose dirt easier when sweeping. Maybe ask Durabak what they think regarding this...

You're gonna love how the Durabak hides imperfections... Not that you have many on that deck brutha!

More I look at the interior colors in the TRON, I think grey will be best also...

The audio will rock with the sub addition! I just put one in my Hurricane. :D

Looks great, I can't wait to see how the duraback comes out. I have been thinking of using it in my bow area. Does it get real hard or is it rubbery?

Probably not. I know on my board I had to do some things on the back end to allow you tube junk to be embedded. It wasn't that hard, but did not come that way out of the box.
