[h=1]I’m Baa…aack![/h]Trip was good. Wedding went off just fine. Plane rides were long. Countryside was beautiful. Lifestyle sucks (all houses have walls around the entire house and security bars on all doors and windows).

As they say, “nice place to visit, but wouldn’t want to live there”.

I did get a chance to go out on the Indian Ocean in a 32’ RIB. Launching and retrieval were VERY interesting. I’m going to make a short video on that. I think you guys will all enjoy it.

So I came back to the task of finishing my taxes which consumed most of my time over the last week. Now I'm ready f boat work. Although I got rained out today, I got to the boat yesterday.

If you remember, I was working on the water tank support. So, yesterday, I did the final fit on the support system and a quick rough and scuff. I put two coats of gel coat inside the support rails, then PL’d the support system in place and screwed it down. I still have to FG that piece in, as well as cut and FG the holes in the stringer for the water tank hoses.

Hope to get a lot of time on the boat in the next two weeks. Q said he would help out at the salon every day before he has to leave the country (visa running out – no new work permit – don’t get me started on immigration). So, hoping for some significant progress.

Sea ya…

Hey GT, thanks for the welcome back in advance.

Let's definitely plan on a get together at the next gun show (Miami or Fort Lauderdale).

I guess I missed all the fun while I was gone. Isaac coming by. And now I've read several posts talking about problems with the iboats forum, like being down for several days.

What happened on the forum?

I think some hackers tried some funny stuff, but the Iboats.com team kicked their collective butts...at least that's the rumor and I'm sticking to it!;)

Glad to know you made it back safe and sound and all went well...

BTW, make sure you check the papers on the H-D dudes...you wouldn't want the Unions, INS, IRS, WPBPD, and a whole host of alphabet soup agencies knocking your door down...:rolleyes::facepalm::D

[h=1]SIDETRACKED ? Honey Do Headliner Project[/h]OK, OK, so no boat work the last couple of days. The headliner in my Nissan Xterra had been slowly separating, but the other day, it started coming down big time. It seems a common aging problem on the Xterras is that the foam between the headliner base and the material just suddenly deteriorates.

So, Mrs Kick Back said she wouldn?t ride to work with me until I fixed it. Actually, I think she was looking for an excuse to drive the Mustang she recently acquired.

Anyway, here are some before pictures:

To get the headliner out, I had to take off everything that was holding it in: lights, visors, grab bars, etc. Actually, the Xterra was made so all of these things came out fairly easily. I only had to pop loose the trim plastic below the headliner on one side as it just slipped out of the other side easily once the first side dropped. I did have to go to the auto parts store to buy a Torx bit to take the seat belt off.

Here is the inside without the headliner:

I brushed off all the old foam and glue leaving the base which seemed like some type of plastic coated cardboard. Then I used 3 cans of Rustoleum Leak Seal (black) spray paint. It is like the Flex Seal they have been advertising so heavily, except Lowes said they discontinued that product due to a lot of negative customer feedback. Anyway, this rubberized paint covered in one coat and looked good.

Here are the results:

I?m happy. Mrs. Kick Back is happy. So all is good. Hope to get back on the boat tomorrow.

Nice Job, Kickback.

I'm happy to follow your project. This will definitely help me with my project, as I plan to do an I/O to O/B conversion also; however, on a much smaller scale. I'm looking at doing the conversion on a 17' sport boat.

Cheers!

Glad to have you aboard rebel. I haven't gotten there yet, but still planning. Today, I walked around our boatyard looking at boats with outboard brackets. My interest was to see how much the engine power heads move forward when fully tilted up. I am designing a transom seat (with storage) and need 2 more inches so I can fit my 15" gas grill inside it. The verdict is still out, so I'm going to call Armstrong tomorrow to see if they have any insights into how much space I will have (probably Yamaha 200s, or there abouts).

Anyway, welcome aboard.

[h=1]Mid-Week Update[/h]Got some time on the boat yesterday and a good day today. Yesterday was spent 15 minutes on, and 15 minutes off (rain). All day like that. Anyway, I?m working on the support across the top of the transom, so my first task was to finish grinding the area. Grinding is bad enough, but doing it upside down is even worse. It seems the best angle to hold the grinder is always such that it blows the dust right across your face.

By the end of the day yesterday, I had the first of the 2 pieces tacked in with PB. Today, the weather was great. No rain at all. So I got the second piece tacked in, then began the complete PB job. I don?t know if I?m doing the PB application right because it took me all day and I?ve still got a couple of mixes of PB to go. I?m using a combination of a tongue and a plastic spreader. Oh well, I?ll keep plugging at it.

Here are the pictures:

One diversion I had today was to spend about an hour moving one of my two 5K A/C units from the bridge to the ground on the port side.

The duct was in my way every time I went into or out of the salon. Also, the condensation was dripping off the bridge onto the not-so-ready-for-it deck. I had to keep fooling with plastic sheeting to drain the water off. Much better now. Will move the other unit soon.

The other diversion was to walk around looking at boats with outboard brackets. See my previous reply to releb01.

Hoping for good weather again tomorrow.

Thanks troop. They help a lot when I'm working in the salon (which is where I mix my resin now that the floorboards are in). Not exactly cool, but take the edge off. And I can always stick my head in front of one of the ducts for a quick cool down.

Edit: BTW, love the new term "prehensible toe".

[h=1]More PB On The Transom Top[/h]Got a few hours on the boat today. Ground all the high spots, peaks, and holes in the PB on the underside of the transom support top. Then several mixes of PB and put down a nice smooth PB fillet all around. Took my time (I think I was going too fast, worrying about the mix kicking). So now it’s ready for tabbing.

Working upside down again. I have started dumping the mix out of the mixing pot and onto a board as soon as I catalyze it. It’s making it easier to hold a spreader and a tongue depressor and not have to worry about holding the pot. Anyway, I could have sworn my hair was dipping into the resin. When I got home, I asked Mrs Kick Back to check and she didn’t see any. That would have been a real mess.
