[h=1]My New Toy[/h]Well, we discussed air compressors over the last few posts. So here?s my new toy:

MyNewAirCompressor.jpg

Bought it from Captain Pete. He bought it new a year and a half ago because he was going to set up his truck for mobile service, but he never did. Its 6.5 HP with two 4.5 gal tanks.

It?s too hot to work on the boat this afternoon (90 degrees and blistering sun) so I?m going to sit on the patio with a cigar and read the manuals. Boat work this evening.

Good score on the compressor...you can always sister on some extra air tanks for larger volume capacity

Yeah, good idea on the extra tank. I'll be watching for deals on that.

Will take it to the boat this evening and fire it up.

[h=1]Sorry Guys - Had To Do It - 1000[/h]As I’m typing, I’ve had 999 posts here on iboats. Man, they add up fast. So, I just had to do my 1000[SUP]th[/SUP] post here on my thread (I know, narcissistic). Actually, I wanted to see if I’m still an Ensign once I post this (again, narcissistic).

But it is a milestone. Glad to be here.

Set backs. Time wasters.

Computer wouldn't boot. In shop for 2 days. Motherboard bad. Took hard drive and made it an external drive. Bought refirb laptop. Fighting getting internet going. Blue screen. Won't rebot. Can't find disk drive. Computer store closed until Monday.

This sucks. Rant over.

Re: 81 Sea Ray 26 Sedan Bridge I/O to OB Conversion/Restore (Pics)

Thanks for the concern guys. The used computer I bought is back in the shop. Not happy with that little computer shop. I thought since I bought it Saturday and it failed Saturday, they would give some priority to looking at it. No, they put me in the queue. I won't give them any more business after this. In fact, I'll probably tell people to stay away from them.

Mrs Kickback actually went out to Best Buy today and bought a computer for $299. Nice little laptop. Nice price. Actually, they were seling new, but outdated Toshibas for $229. Wish I had waited on my purchase. But if you need a computer, you may want to check your local Best Buy. They won't last long.

Got some boat work done today. More FG on the transom top. Sanded to fit the stern drive hole fillers. They are ready for resin and FG. Put all the pieces for my transom seat on the router table to round off the appropriate edges.

Spent much of the time fooling with the new compressor. The guy had left fuel sit in it for a year and a half or two. Had to take the carb apart and clean it. Got it running. It builds up good pressure, but I think the carb is still partially blocked. Plan to let it run a lot tomorrow hoping it will clean itself out. I know that worked on my little 15 HP OB.

Yeah, I use my cell phone on iboats a lot too. But its a lot easier on the computer. Short posts, I'll use the phone. Long posts, definitely the computer.

Tell me about it! Last night, Mrs Kickback came out to the patio carrying her computer, her tablet, and her smart phone. And she used all three.

Good to see you have the comput solved. Hope the compressor works out. Use some chem-tool b12 in the gas tank. That should help.
Computer, tablet and smart phone, too much for me. I guess I'm to old school.

[h=1]Fort Lauderdale Boat Show Today[/h]We went to the boat show today. Monday’s are the best days to go – not crowded! Nothing really new this year, but fun to go anyway.

Did get hooked up on some bunk hinges I saw at last year’s Miami Boat Show. The Robalo 30 footer has back rest cushions up in the bow along the edges of the birth. Each of the cushions is hinged and swing up to make single bunks. The hinges will work perfect in my salon’s couch to make it so we can sleep four on the boat, if needed.

I learned something today from a canvas guy. Most people, like me, think light colored canvas, zippers, etc. last longer than dark colors. The thinking is since light colors reflect the sun and dark colors absorb it, the dark colors would deteriorate faster. He said it was just the opposite. Dark colors last longer. Go figure.

Oh yeah. Looking at the big boats (80’-110’), there were quite a few silver/grey boats (my color scheme). Man they look good. We were planning a two tone, medium grey above the rub rail and darker grey below, but a fairly stark contrast. After looking at these boats, what we like best is just a slightly lighter topside. Not much contrast. In fact, at first, we thought our favorite look was all one shade. Then I noticed the topside was just a little lighter. It took me five minutes to convince Mrs Kick Back and her brother that it was two different shades. But once their eyes caught it, they agreed.

Saw my fiberglass supplier. He’s always good for at least a half hour of conversation, if not more. I told him I was just getting to the transom and he said to use vinylester on the exterior to provide better blister protection than polyester. So, I learned something else today, as well.

[h=1]Brushable Gel Coat ? Any Experience?[/h]At the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show today, my fiberglass supplier showed me a sample of their brushable gel coat. It laid down smooth, with no brush marks. Ready to sand and polish. I think I?ll get a quart and play around with it.

Does anybody have any experience/knowledge with this type of gel coat: durability, water resistance, strength, etc?

Let me know.
