Re: '86 Aluminum Starcraft Restoration

If you noticed, the new impeller only has three fins.....

Thanks to Boobie, I know that that impeller caused issues in the three cylinder motors, and was made to keep the operating temperature up higher in the 2 cylinder motors. No thankyou!! Luckily for me the impeller had been changed this past fall (according to the previous owner) and it looks like it has hardly any wear on it, and no cracking or wrinkles as many of the used impellers have when being replaced. It was also a freshwater motor for striper fishing, so not many hours on it. Anyways, I have put the old impeller back into the new housing, I think it will be fine. I may order a new impeller anyways, we'll see.

OMG - motor parts all over the place. Are you taking lessons from me? LOL

I don't know anything about those J-E's but the three lobed impeller is interesting. Can you still get the six lober? Seems more lobes=more moving water. The thermostat should control the operating temps as long as everything is working.

I bought a box deal of junck at an auction that had parts that look just like the parts pictured. I thought I had old sasage grinder parts but they may be boat motor parts. What ya think? Ed Bell

Re: '86 Aluminum Starcraft Restoration

JB, here are the pictures. Took me a while but when you get old you also get slow. I bet most of this is sausage grinder parts, not outboard boat motor parts. I know the blue thingy came out of the back of my boat but I don't know what it is. My boat does have a working model bailage pump. I hooked the pump directly to a battery and it pumped water out of the boat. Before I unwired everything this blue thing was hooked up with the wires to the pump. I would like to know what the blue gadget is, if anyone can help.

Re: '86 Aluminum Starcraft Restoration

If the blue thing was hooked to the pumps electrical system was it inline (just drawing electricity) or a part of the pump system. It doesnt look like a float but an automatic bilge pump float was my 1st thought.

Re: '86 Aluminum Starcraft Restoration

The blue thing was wired to the bailge pump (which is white and mounted in the bottom of the boat) along with a troling motor wire and the two alagator clips shown in the picture. I had water in the boat thinking that the blue thing might have been a float but when I hooked the alagator clips to the battery the pump would not work. So, I took all of the wires apart and hooked the two wires from the pump directly to the battery and it worked perfectly. Either the float is bad (don't understand how it works anyway) or the alagator clips were too rusty to make contact or all of the wire connections were so croaded that it didn't work. Any idea as to how a float works to turn the pump on? I can't understand how it would switch the pump on just by being lifted by some water in your boat. Ed Bell

Ed - Please start your own thread. Done of your questions have anything to do with with sutor's resto. And nobody has a clue about the blue enema bag thingy.

Sorry, I''ll butt out of this thread. I do have a couple of threads going about my boat, but not knowing exactly what is proper etiquette here on iboats (since I'm a newbe), I thought that I may be able to get an answere here. I'll go back to minding my own business on my threads. Ed Bell

Re: '86 Aluminum Starcraft Restoration

So as you east coasters know we had a heavy snowstorm this past week. It destroyed my boat tarp because snow started collecting. I always had issues with water pockets in my tarp. Anyways I got tired of it so I derived this setup. It's quick and easy and I used old supports from an above ground pool.

Thanks fellow boater! I actually revinyled the entire console with vinyl that matched the seat. If I had to do it over again Id probably just use the carpet that I used on the floors. Either way it would look great. I think its going to be warm enough to get a few coats of paint down in the next few weekends, then I'll drop the motor. Very soon I will be back off of the dry dock!!

I am looking at either the lowrance HDS7 touch, or the Humminbird 898. I want side imaging. I like the features of the Lowrance better, but I think I want to be able to do the Ipilot Link, which is a Humminbird exclusive.... Any input fellas?
