Re: 86 islander

No worries, i am rather intrigued about when the boat was built and was only trying to be helpful about nailing down a year... i am in California right now (boat is in ohio) when i get back i will take some pics on my phone. I only have them on my camera and cannot put them online from there. When i get back to ohio she is headed straight back to the welding shop and should be done by the beginning of august.

Re: 86 islander

I just picked up a 2nd identical motor (175hp) that runs. So i am going to put that one on the boat and keep the other for spare parts.

It seems I read somewhere that you could have your Starcraft refurbished at the factory. I think what Jas' said could actually make sense. (Add your own joke here)

Yup, real deal. There was actually a video floating around here on factory rebuilds, can't find it at the moment.

There may be a mini series coming out soon on the whole process, you can DVR it NB;):p

Re: 86 islander

Yeah i searched around for a couple of hours and also found another black one that had obviously been re-painted. Also found a couple of the smooth hulled ones. As I've said before, Starcfaft started doing weird stuff in the 80's. Many different models and partial brochures that really take more of a sales approach than providing technical information. Before the brochure would have a half page of info and a nice picture. Now there's two pages of info on 6 variations of one model and mostly it covers outfitting the interior. I do know they made 6 models that year ranging from 19 feet to 26 but the brochure doesn't show side veiws of all the models.

So it's probably time for me to reiterate that I have a good handle on the 60's and part of the 70's but have absolutely no clue what went on from about 75 up haha.

Is there a ID plate in the boat???? Mid 80's should have smooth sides and the bigger cabin window's? LOVE the outboard going on the back plan!!!!!:D:cool:

M, that's what had me sticking foot in mouth to begin with but there are other models in the brochure with lapstrake hulls and you know Starcraft. If let's say a couple of the 22 footers have lapstrake, then all the 22 footers will have lapstrake.

Re: 86 islander

With all this investigation on the hull I haven't seen anyone ask if the OP was going to go with a bracket or cutting down the transom and adding a splashwell. starcrafter65 mentioned bracket but it never came back up...
My 21' '72 Chieftain OB is rated for 140 max... I bet this will fly with the 175!

Re: 86 islander

No builders plate, only a capacity plate. Only an ohio hull identification number (hin). I am getting a custom swim platform/ ob bracket welded up at a local shop. The capacity plate says up to 180 hp so I should be ok legally and insurance wise. I probably dont need all of that motor or at least wont use all of the available power ( at least all of the time... he he...) but i have less than $1000 into both of them and one was rebuilt 2 years ago... i was lucky on both!
