Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

wow...that was funny! You don't need the cloth or woven. The mat is what makes the seal, if thats all you are wanting to do. Use the cloth or woven for it to be strong. This goes to your earlier post...I wonder why we need drain holes if the new glass job is water tight and has no voids for water to get in??? I just assumed I will be putting in drains but I have been thinking about this a lot. Hell FW's drains on my liberator were half way up the stringer. I guess I feel that if you have drain holes (other than the two in the bulkheads) you will be allowing water to get in. In my case I will have the stringers and bulks suspended off the hull like FW didso water will have a path just like before. I may still fill under them with foam. I don't know!

Great thread! Another "Must Read" or "Required Reading" for new members on iboats forums(along with "Oops" Hull Extension thread). I'm at the same spot with my deck replacement & I'll be copying your work step by step for the rest of the rebuild. Post up as many picture's as you can, it really helps. Again, Great thread, looks very professional.

Thank You all for you kind words! It is much appreciated :D

We try to get as many pics up as we can....unfortunately we only get to work on her over the weekends and sometimes only 1 day:mad:

You can all be sure that new pic's will be posted on Sunday night!
For me to be put in the same category as oops and the hull extension blows me away!!

I could not agree more Rick, being the first time we have done anything like this. If not for the wealth of knowledge found here I'm not sure the results would be the same. Thanks everyone for the kind words!!! :)

Rick.. After reading all the rot horror treads made me nervous.. I start poking around on my barge.. Dang it I can't find any rot.. Seems to be glassed pretty good too.. Shoot I even still have the old carpet in it and you would think it would suffer some by now.. Nope.. I can hop around all on the deck and that's a feat at my weight.. Poked around the transom.. Nope.. no rot.. The fella I bought the rig from at least kept it inside a storage building and he told me when he bought it it looked brand new. I scoped it out pretty hard before I gave him 10 100 dollar bills.. I guess it matters how folks take care of em.. I noticed they left yours outside cause of the leaves on the deck.. You think that is where most of the rot came from?

Can't wait till splash she is a beauty

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

You were fortunate to find one that spent it's down time in a garage.
To answer the question YES mine was abused :( .... There were traces of an old blue tarp, leaves, pine needles and a lot of bees !
I can only assume that it wasn't tilted bow up and rain water & snow just laid in it for some time.

The story from the PO was it had it's life at his summer home on Lake Wallenpaupack Pa. He sold the house and the boat was to go with the sale of the house.
The new buyers decided they didn't want the boat and he towed it to his home and put it in the big block garage pictured on my first post of this thread.

This was back in 2002....a few years later he bought an old Corvette and the boat was put behind the garage and the Vette took it's place inside....

I guess she just laid back there with a cheap tarp thrown over it and forgotten....
Must be nice to have $$$$ to throw away!

Well we have her now and will be reviving her back to life! You can bet she will never see water inside her hull again. Just water on the outside where it belongs:D

I'm glad you have a fine boat and no real issues! Keep her dry on the inside and you will have plenty of fun times on the water.

Time to head on over to Rob's house and perform more reconstructive surgery.....Where is that bag of Botox for that face lift????

Long day but I'll post a few pics tonight......

MORE GRINDING!!!will it ever end????

Here is the fuel tank support. It's a piece of LVL beam and we are wrapping it in 6oz cloth for some water proofing

lay on cloth and staple one end

wrap it tight around block and staple again.

trim off excess cloth

wrap the ends like a present

The supports are ready to be installed, some csm on the back to glue them to stringers.
You can also see the drains from under the fuel tank locker and cloth to cover the tops of the stringers

stringers drain and fuel tank drain to bilge

Drains are set in 3M 5200 sealer

A view of the drain from the other side going through the stringer

drain in the ski locker

This is the backing for the seat pedestal and one end of the ski locker hatch support
We ran it across 4 stringers and the bulkhead to tie everything together.

Tank supports in and 2 layers of cloth wrapping everything. The top wraps are about 4" down each side of the stringers and bulks.

fuel tank under pressure test. 4.5 lbs and holding It's been holding and we will check it tomorrow....should pass the USCG 24 hour @4lbs time will tell.

So tomorrow will be foam and setting the tank and maybe we will have a deck to stand on!!! :D

This is some great hardcore boat porn. I find myself quickly minimizing the window when my lady walks in the room and all. Shes tired of me looking at boats all the time. Now its naked boats and boat parts.
