Yeah:facepalm: I did, but the windshield was just a $5 extra when I picked up the 'new' motor for the 1960 FireFlite: 1961 Evinrude Starflite 75hp UniCharger. The windshield trim is super cool, off an unknown yr Lyman boat.

1/2way back w/ the motor, I looked at a CHEAP 1963 SC Jupiter, 90% demo done, only 4 pcs/parts missing, I have 2 port side pcs to gauge/make starboard pcs, plus the 1 central floor stringer is missing, an the bottom trim pc along the deck for the panels below the forward edge of the splashwell. It's windshield frame is almost as perfect as I could ever hope to find 55+yrs later, And it will take my long shaft 65hp Merc 650 motor. Some of the trim is rough, some in decent shape, not a Resto though. I need to get some 'stuff' off the Jet & it's on the market (CL, maybe evil-bay) asking about what I have in it, & I'd take what I have in the Jupiter.

I'd never have the opportunity to get & do a big CC like you & CC254 are, although they're what I learned to ski behind. Probably a stretch to get the tow rig too......But I spent many many weekends on one very similar over many summers. I like some of the teak accents on your rigs, harkens back to the wooden boat heyday. You guys are both honoring them w/ your updates & details/changes.

Enjoy having a scare-fest tonight. Mine scares too easy, & then keeps me up fighting off the nightmares:facepalm:

Re: 89 Fiesta Vee 250 setbacks, projects, and upgrades!

still compounding over here:facepalm:. i refuse to count hours now,,lol
i am not sure when the last time she was waxed but arrrg. just acetoned the last section tonight:D, thats smooth anyway, tomorrow i should be able to finish up all the smooth surfaces with the restore compound. and maybe get the wax out and have at it. the wax should go tons easier as well as quicker.

a problem i am facing currently is all the non skid surfaces topside. i did a test with the acetone and that just wont do, the dirt just grows and grows, too many nilks and crannies. along all the transitions from smooth to ruff i have a bung overlap:eek:. i thought about a bleached based product and just rinse and coat with wax. how is everyone dealing with them?

update the marina is ready for me, i need to find the fastforward button on the finish, so i can get er wet:D
thanks for the support.

Get some regular 3m hull compound, the restore stuff doesn't work as well. You want the heavy compound. It cuts like butter. For the non skid get some starbright deck cleaner. To make it easier to clean get some woodys spray wax, you spray it on , wipe it over the surface and then spray it off, it is great stuff and will make things come off the non skid much easier if you do that every couple months. follow directions to the tee on the bottle. Been using it forever on mine. Might order some Triple XXX paste wax why your there.

The woody wax on the non skid is like having wax on the surface but its not slippery. It is very slippery when you are applying so be careful.

Re: 89 Fiesta Vee 250 setbacks, projects, and upgrades!

^^^^ thanks,
will the starbrite ease the transition that the acetone bunged up? i kinda feel like the overlap has screwed me.

as far as the 3m compound goes,,, in my haste of getting something right now, i am almost done with my second bottle not to mention the wax that i shouldn't have bought,,,,,,,, heck, i coulda got that large jug of the 3m been done and prolly not whining about it either, lol.
i tend to ride out bad decisions, instead of cutting the losses and moving on. i seem to like the tuff lessons:facepalm:.
i am gonna search woodys to see where i can pic some up before my stubborn self gets headed in the wrong direction,,,, again,,lol
thanks for the support:D

I went to the "toy" store after work yesterday and got the woodys sprayand the starbrite deck cleaner. still cant find the xxx paste anywhere local. ended up getting the 3m wax for below the rubrail. hope to make some headway today.

Re: 89 Fiesta Vee 250 setbacks, projects, and upgrades!

yeeehaaawww, the compounding is done:D and man am i glad.
i put a coat of the 3m wax on tonight, was looking good, but i cant tell for sure as it was getting dark when i was finishing.
i went thru like 6 bufferpads after a short while they get all gunked up and sticky( i did wait an hour before i started buffing)
as far as i could tell the red stripe looks amazingly better. not quite perfect, but looking sweet.
if it powders up again :eek:i'll use the right stuff:facepalm:. but i am happy to turn the page on that one however:D.
i pulled some teak off the ladder steps and steeringwheel center, sanded and got a coat of spar varnish on it.

my plan after the wax is on to splash her and finish the switches for the rgb's and underwaters at the slip:D.
hope everyone had a good day

Sounds good man, glad your getting close to splash. I didn't understand your issue with the acetone than "bunged" something up?. The acetone pretty much removes everything down to gelcoating. You then compound it to shine it up. You will probably have to order the Triple XXX wax direct from woody's on there site. I put in one order a year. The aluminum blue bottle spray will last you forever. Time for pics of the hull all shined up!!!;)

Re: 89 Fiesta Vee 250 setbacks, projects, and upgrades!

the acetone bunged up the edge of the non skid, or aaaa pushed the dirt over to the dark side,,lol
i buffed the edge a lil and it seemed to take away the bung.

i know i have been lacking in the pic dept:eek:
i will post before after on the nonskid with the starbrite deck cleaner.
since i havent posted the before pics on anything lately i thought the after would be pointless so i didn't take them either:facepalm:
just glad the compounding is done,,, i hope:D
i'll put an order in for the xxx, soon. my toy store(west marine) didn't have it in the catalogue either. i'll check thier site, thanks.

and thanks i cant wait to get her wet.
you are bangin out that list as well:D, big day tomorrow the final push,,, all the best

thanks man. Now I get it. The starbright should clean it up fine, stiff bristle brush and you will be good to go. The starbright or the woody's non skid cleaners will do a great job for ya. The woodys wax for the deck is second to non though, you will love it but like I said, follow the directions.

DEFINATELY A SLACKER!!!!!! on the pics posts.

Watch out doing work near the edge of your boat in the slip. I spend as much time fastening my tools to my wrist as I do working. Not that I dropped a snapon ratchet into the water. I just heard you know.

So where are the buffing photos? You say it would be boring, but your dealing with a group of people that love any and all photos about boat work!

Btw the cockpit looks great.

Re: 89 Fiesta Vee 250 setbacks, projects, and upgrades!

ok, lol,, i got the admiral involved,,,
i thought the red stripe was lookin good with the meguires restorer after the wax,,, not really
i chose to spread the 3m wax by hand and buff off,,,, what a mistake that was,, i got some oxidation creeping back up thru.
although i didn,t take before pics,,, this is the transom i didn't touch yet, i tried to hit the pic at an angle so you all can see how it doesn't shine,,,lol
042012006.jpg

and to give you an indicator as to how it was before todays escapade, and too many hours behind the buffer and just a few loads of laundry(6 pads each load) and tooo many hours to admit,,lol
042012010.jpg

it is shining up and looks tons better however i am gonna have to dig a lil deeper, once i applied the 3m wax by hand and buffed it off the red stripe is showing signs of oxidation again,,,ohhh brother,,,
i cant get pics to see what i am seeing with the red.
so i buffed some more of the 3m wax on and waited,,, had a few beverages,,, listened to the pens,,, and buffed it off, trying to buff off some of the mess that was left behind, on the hand application, not sure of the result cause again it was just too dark to see if the buff on had anything good to suprise me with. i'll post the follow up tomorrow after work
i also ran into a snag of sorts,,, to be continued,,lol

Re: 89 Fiesta Vee 250 setbacks, projects, and upgrades!

although i was ignoring the inevitable for a few days,,,,

when i pin stripe i like to take off that protective coating,,,

if you dont this is what you come up with,,
042012002.jpg

and a close up ,, after abuse and being left to the elements,,lol
042012001.jpg

so the admiral and i spent about 2 hours peeling the "protective" busted up good for nothing,,, coating off the pinstripe,,lol
once done she is looking pretty good.
042012004.jpg

a little wax residue yet, but a ton better.
this is the 3rd boat i had to peel the protective coating off of:facepalm:. there should be bold print on the pinstripe kits telling the "upgrader" to peel that sucker off before it turns into a job!,,,lol
at least the pinstripe didn't crisscross,,, i had a trihull that when i was removeing the "protective coat" i had to reapply the stripe crisscrosses,, and what a pita that was. this one was a pain because it weathered soo much before i realized it was there. all those little pieces,,, argg,,, i messed up a lil bit of the stripe with my fingernail trying to dig it off.

agreed the dock is really not the place to work on the sides of the hull,
my old slip had to be a divers paradise:eek:, heck my phone is there somewhere! note; (even though it's handy dont use your phone to doublecheck the mooring lines:facepalm:)

So where are the buffing photos? You say it would be boring, but your dealing with a group of people that love any and all photos about boat work!

thanks,,
and agreed, i am the same way, however i am still drooling on your woodwork pics:D

yep it is,,, a few times now i said, it's good enough, then went for another coat:eek:. still not there, but the only thing that sets me at ease is remembering the whole boat had 0 shine last year when i bought it, so that being said it has come a long way, and it does feel good:D,,, now just a little more and i'll be happy:facepalm:

Time to start wet sanding!!! BAHAHABAHAHA The hull is looking good man, just a few more passes and........:D

By the way, if you would have used a hair dryer, the exterior strip probably would have come off easier. Not for sure though.

wet sanding:eek:,, gosh i dont wana go all inn on this one:D.
seriously i do need a little more grit to get down to best, but i wana get her wet:D,,, can i,, huh,, can i?
yep it's still bothering me that i didn't go deep enough:facepalm:, i am hopeing for a suprise tomorrow so i can break out the deck cleaner followed by the woodys spray. i hope the weather holds out,,, glad to hear you pushed it south,,,thanx.

as far as the hair drier goes,,, there had to be like 5 million lil pices of that junk on there, i woulda liked to break out the torch..
only thing i had going for me there was the restorer got under the edges, thank gosh, that helped a bunch. i didn't think of adding heat.

funny, i had great plans of tonites todo list and the "protective coating" wasn't on it, and i spent most of my evening dealing with it. cant wait to attack the non skid now,,, i have some renewed energy.

i am saving the stern for last, just so i can keep reminding myself just where i was before starting the "easy" project,,lol
