Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild
Well I told you folks we were gonna be a little slower on this one, but I still feel like I should apologize for the inactivity. We had another work marathon in DC last week and I've also been a little busy readying the Liquid Limo for the trip to the valet service at Lake Anna. In order to store the boat on the racks there, we needed fiberglass bows and a decent cover. So we got that accomplished and the only thing left is replacing the stainless tilt lines on the back that keep leaking. They'll be here on Friday and we'll have that boat ready for the lake.
I spent the day today tweeking The Admiral's jet ski trailer. New lights and transom tie down brackets for the jet skis and now that's finished. She's really excited about the jet skis!
So, back to the Mariner. As you all know, we've discovered a few leaky/missing rivits. Here's a representative shot of what we're dealing with. Some are ground off, some are just loose, and a couple are just gone!
You can also see the PO's fix for leaking rivits. I think it may have been a poor JB Weld application. Basically it didn't work out so well
We spent a couple evenings last week with the baby sledge hammers pinging the ones that just needed tightning up. On the snapped off or missing ones, we just drilled them out, shot the hole full of 5200, and thru bolted a stainless panhead fastener with stainless lock washer and nut. We still have several to do and once we get them all done I'll go back and grind off the excess bolt. The pan head fasteners fit the outside of the hull just like a rivit and I'm not really concerned with the phillips head indent in the head. We're gonna paint the bottom anyways.
Working on the boat on that rickity million dollar trailer was getting to be a real pain, so we pulled it off the trailer and I spent the afternoon yesterday blocking it up with some scrap lumber left over from the deck roof we did last week. This is where she'll set until we get the gluvit in and the flooring and transom done. At our current rate of production, I figure about two years
We'll be converting the new trailer we purchased last month for the LL and using the galvanized trailer the LL sets on now for this boat.
