Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

19 gallons gets me incredibly far, but I carry one or two 5gal cans with me all the time

i travel 20 miles one way just get a sniff of grouper fishing here. i have 25 gal under the bow and 15 under the splashwell and still want to put one under the deck.

nb would love to post on my thread just to have 3 starcraft cc on top of the forum... but not much to post

Frigging foam and contact cement. There was more effort on my part removing that stuff that anything else on the boat.

Nice flip. That tractor has sooo many uses.

Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

Yeah it's amazing how many things I can find to use this tractor for:)

I've got a 19 gal and it's enough to get me out around Soloman's Island to flyrod them stripers. I grew up on the bay and worked charter boats starting when I was 11 so all that trolling and crap really bores me.

Besides, I'm just restoring this one for the heck of it. I got the LL to cruise around the lakes in with my girl:D

And you guys are right about two things- flippin a 21 footer is a serious nail bighter, and I've worked my butt off on this danged poured in place foam and the contact cement.

Lookin great NB, always good to see a thick coat of gluvit on a starcraft.

Another tin can that won't leak for a few decades.

I'm glad to see that you are staying the course with the big mariner, we all know you could have quit and got another rig to restore(with the corrosion and all) but this old rig will live to see many more trips out thanks to you.

What's the color scheme gonna be? Any mint leftover?:D

I have a full can of the custom green but we're thinking pettit easypoxy platinum bottom and black sides. Trying to go more hi tek or modern on the cc in leiu of the old school approach we took on the LL.

Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

Anyone interested in an aluminum fuel tank which was custom fit for installation under splashwell of 21' Starcraft Mariner? I am renovating my Mariner, and replacing it's current tank with a belly tank. The PO had it custom made, and it's a shame to waste it. Part of my renovation is installation of motor bracket, and adding a full transom, so the current tank would simply be a waste of space.

For me??? I have a Moeller 34 gallon plastic tank on order. Should be here any day, but I still have quite a bit of prep work before I can install it... I just finished removing probably 600 lbs of that wretched waterlogged foam they used when manufacturing the boat. THAT should save some gas, and get that thing up on plane faster.

Petey, was the foam in your boat still bright yellow or a dull orange? Did it feel wet to the touch?

WOW the boat looks weird flipped on side and gutted. That's where mine will be soon. I have about a month off from work right now so it's time to get busy.
NB can you please contact me on MSN I need to talk with you about the old CC from your boat.

Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

Hi Guys First post so go easy on me.

Former Starcraft Mariner owner. Had a 180 which if I recall correctly(1989) was 18.5 in length. Powered by a 88 HP SPL it would cruise a lot like a rock skipping across the water on a flat day.

Recently got the fishing bug again and figured I might look into buying another one. Most likely I'm asking for trouble as it's a 100% saltwater environment where I live.

The floor on my Mariner 180 was soft when I sold it. I think I'm glad I decided NOT to pull it up! Holy toledo I had no idea about the foam on these hulls! I'm guessing the foam is also porous and allows salt water to puddle all over!

Now for a question. Is the foam limited to just the larger 21' Mariner or was it on the entire line (I think they made a Mariner 160).

Thanks Guys!

I think it was all of them from somewhere in the 80's on Tommy. Look for an older one if you want to avoid the foam. Check out the Starcraft section of this forum. We have a thread in there where we post interesting Starcraft deals we find on craigslist.

Bottom Paint!!!

Since the LL did so well during our two weeks at the lake, I?ve decided to turn my attention back to the Mariner. We finally figured out how to catch the formerly elusive lake striper and now we need the ultimate fishing machine up and running.

A couple of things to report that have taken place in the middle of the hunting trip, vacation and the high pressure Liquid Limo motor swapping fiasco.

While swapping the motor I came across this shop cart at the junkyard and gave the guy 10 bucks for it.

My brother (who has the bigger welder) did a little fab work and we now have a moble stand for the big 150 Suzuki. The motor is on the stand at the boat guy?s place and I forgot to take a pic. More on that later.

HPIM2232.jpg

Also, I took my one lone cast aluminum piece to the metal fab guys. They reverse engineered it and made me a pair for the Mariner. Problem solved! Now before you folks start pm?ing me, they were very expensive. But I?m using a bunch of saved/salvaged stuff on this boat so I really didn?t mind.

So?yesterday I got bored in the office and decided to attack the bottom/side paint portion of the project.

The Mariner came with the standard 80?s two tone blue/white with all those gawdy decals and pinstripes on the side. The bottom was bare aluminum and the years of salt exposure have turned it a sort of tea/rust brown. The plan here is to strip off all the decal/pinstripes, sand and wire brush the existing paint and mill finished bottom, and prime and paint.

I started using a small bottle propane torch and a decal scraper to remove all the decals and pinstripes. Jeez, I?d like to get my hands on the braniac who came up with that decal idea. Those stickies have been baking in the sun since 89 and did not want to let go.

Once the decals were removed, I broke out the orbital sander loaded with 150 grit pads. This did just great except for the ribs and rivits. For those I used a cheapo Home Depot wire wheel on my Ryobi cordless drill for the rivits and the ole block sander on the ribs.

Here?s a shot of the side that remains.

Continued due to too many pics????.
