Guys I hope one of you all could help me with a question that has been keeping me up for the past few nights. I have tried to do as much reading as possible to try and answer my own question but I am just left with more ????. The question is simple on my 95 XRi how long after a cold start should it take for the water pisser to start pissing ? I have seen a few youtube vids and its not immediatley like some ppl tell me it should be. I did a quick timer when I started it up yesrterday after it had been sitting for 2 weeks and it took almost 2 minutes before the pisser started. SHould I be concerned or is this normal ? I have had my boat for about 2 months and have gone out on it about 6 times with no issues, engine has performed as it should thus my stumpness. Thank you all in advance.

I have a '93 150 XRi and you are fine. The tell-tale hose is after the t-stats and will not start peeing until the t-stats open up. Mine takes about that long to start after I start her up. Does your boat "beep" when you turn on the key? That same beeper will sound a constant beep if the engine is overheating. For a fairly small amount of money you can add a temp gauge and even a water pressure gauge to your boat and these two items will go a long way towards helping you monitor the condition of your engine. Great engine by the way- take care of it and it will take care of you.

Thanks for you reply buddy I had read about the T-stats but I just wanted to verify the time it took to start peeing. And no my boat does not beep when I turn the key. How or what do I have to do to make it do that beep ? Also the boat currently has the PSI gauge if I recall correctly it reads in the 11-13 when at wot, does that sound right ? Will be adding the temp gauge asap.

10-12 is normal so you are good there. There should be a little horn or beeper under the dash somewhere that will sound when you turn on the key. A couple beeps is normal for the system check. If there is no beep then either the beeper is bad, disconnected or absent. It will sound during an overheat condition or a low/no oil condition. Either one can kill your engine so i would advise getting that taken care of. The temp gauge is a valuable addition and there should already be a tan/blue tracer wire in your harness under the dash.

Wow glad I registered to this site I have really helped me out with ur 2 posts. My boat is currently set up as a pre mix so not worried about not having oil but I deffinatly do not want to over heat. I will look for the buzzer and try to get it fixed. Also that tan/blue tracer wire where could i find it under the dash ? running to the tach or something ?

If there is no temp gauge that wire is probably capped or just ends at the harness somewhere. It connect the gauge to the temp sender in the starboard cylinder head. Look at the large harness that runs from the engine to the ignition switch/dash harness. it should be in there somewhere.

The beep when the key is turned on it to signal that the oil alarm module is installed and working, yours have been removed and you pre-mix your fuel.

The temp alarm is a simple ground to alarm, when the temp sender grounds the horn sounds. Go back to the motor, with the key ON, it doesn't have to be running, ground the tan wire to either temp sensor, the alarm should sound, if not, repost and we will lead you to further testing.

Thank you very much for your info. I took a quck peek under the console last night and found the tan/blueish,purpleish wire running from the ignition to a small black object which I asume is the warning buzzer and then down the wire loom to the engine. Would deff like to test it with that ground trick this weekend. WOuld that be the same wire I would connect the temp gauge to ?

No, when you install a temp gauge you will also have to install the sender for that gauge, and run the wire from the sender to the gauge.

That engine should have the 4 wire sensor on the port head, if so you just need the Mercury guage and no sender.

I will check tomorrow morning, if the sensor is there I just tap the gauge to that ?

On my 150 the port side sensor is for the computer and gauge and the sender in the starboard head is for the alarm. The port sensor is a variable output piece and thus the reading on the gauge. The starboard sender is a simple on-off switch that closes when the engine overheats and sounds the alarm. The tan/blue trace wire is from the port sensor and should be the tap for the gauge.

Re: 95' Merc XRi 150 EFi

So today I figured out that the warning buzzer is cut of from its source and the source wire is somewhere lost in the main wiring the runs back to the engine. I Will be buying a temp gauge tomorrow and address that issue, however I am now a little more  now that I pulled the plugs to check and see their condition. The plugs that are in the engine now are NGK BU8H and they are flat tiped o_O (first time I ever seen a spark plug like this).

The Mercury service manual I have says that this engine should be useing NGK BPZ8HS, what is the correct spark plug for this engine or is the same plug and I am just missing something
