If there was ever any question AARP has a hidden, partison agenda, they are currently airing commercials to urge voters to "Dont Vote". It sounds like a Paul Shanklin parody, but it is for real!!
It should serve as all evidence required to proove the lobby group is stricktly liberal, with zero to no interest for their stated mission. Disgusting and blatent.

All you retired folks -- Rip yer cards up, and send them a clear message by VOTING. You may be old, but you still count as an American!!

I haven't seen the commercial but I did find a page about it on the AARP site.

AARP Announces Don't Vote Campaign

"As part of an ongoing voter education campaign, AARP today unveiled its “Don’t Vote” initiative, which tells voters “Don’t vote... until you know where the candidates stand on the issues."

I am a member that WILL be voting.

AARP is a good organization for many things.
But, not everything they say is right.

Their "Don't vote" campaign is absolutely ridiculous.

The commercial, if you watch it, states don't vote until you know where the candidates stand on the issues.

Re: A.A,R.P. says DON'T VOTE!

It's unAmerican to actually know what a candidate stands for, and his positions on the issues of the day.

It's far more important to know how they comb their hair, or in the case of female candidates, how thick their ankles are.

Or how they can spend tons of money on advertisements to distort and misstate the acts and positions of their opponents.

So why exactly is it ridiculous to not vote, if you don't understand the issues?

I agree 100% with that statement by the AARP

Ah 12fter, you nauseate me 8) 8) Did you do any research on this one? or just see "Don't Vote" and then make all sorts of asinine assumptions. They WANT you to vote, they just want you to understand the issues first. Common sense to me......

Re: A.A,R.P. says DON'T VOTE!

Looking around at what we have to choose from this election year.....

For the first time since i registerd, I am not voting this go-round.....

The Foley thing...
Grand jury investigating the government of the City of west palm beach... Already got one City commisioner who gonna be spending time behind bars... and he's squealing on the rest of em'....
Choices for governor, senate, congress, are all poor excuses for human beings....
Far as I can see, there is no "lesser of two evils" anywhere.. So why bother?...

Re: A.A,R.P. says DON'T VOTE!

The point of "Don't Vote" is to not vote untill you understand the stand of a candidate - - As several have said. This is NOT a popularity contest, based soley on TV ads. This is what got us into the "christian" mess that we are in now. But, on the other hand, those that are running want us to put them in, based solely on their deceit.

Re: A.A,R.P. says DON'T VOTE!

Now here is a beautiful example of the Limbaugh mindset.
True he did not lie.It did say "Don't vote".
So now we know the headline, our center for advanced conservative studies, can draw its conclusions and start spouting opinion.
Never mind the intended message.that will only muddy the conservative mindset.
12footer thank you for this great example of Limbaughnian logic.

So why is it AARP's buisness (or yours for that matter) who I vote for? Try to stop me from voting, Pony. It would entertain me to no end.
Since when is it AARP's buisness or yours, to "educate" me?
Sick stuff.

Ah,Pony.. Good. Good. I saw the TV add one time and one time too many. The IDEA of it alone was all it took to fire me up. I'll form my own opinion when ,how, for whom, and for any reason of my own chosing. They WANT me to vote, but they want me to stay home if (in the verdict of their "superior intelect"), think I might vote AGAINST their agenda. If it were just AARP, I could understand, but it isn't. We have shills from our very own party out there trying to keep christians home on election day."Sit this one out"... Make me.
I am happy to predict a large backfire.,and they will deserve it.
Don't get me wrong. I am all for educated voters, and have a slew of questions in my OWM sample ballot regarding the majority of "non-partison" judges, and the "should udge so and so of the suprenme court be retained in office?" carp.... I only wish I knew!! Sure, i think an eductaed voter is the only voter to have! I would go so far as to even liking to see a basic apptitude test PREQUISITE to voting for DOG CATCHER, in my country.
Did you know, the idiot voters of this state actually voted for a interstate bullet-train that was projected to cost tens of BILLIONS of state dollars???
Unbelievable, but it happened. It was repealed, but these morons pulled levers enmass for the stupid thing!
I am notsympathetic to groups who purchase votes, or mislead voters with such tripe as "my opponent will take your medicine away" or some such bilge!
BUT no sir.... I'm not going to be told by you, AARP, the governor of the state, my mommy, a judge, a newspaper, radio talk show host, or ANYONE ELSE -- WHO to vote for, or "not to vote".

It's not their buisness to urge me or any other American "to not vote untill you understand the stand of a candidate". That's all i am trying to say.

Please explain this "Christian mess we are in" you think we are in.

Re: A.A,R.P. says DON'T VOTE!

Open mouth, insert foot, chew vigorously. o:)

Personally, I think voting without understanding the issues/candidates to be an unsupportable position. Voting just because you can is a little silly.

Maybe I draw that conclusion from the signs I have seen in Oklahoma.... "Joe Blow, Democrat Treasurerer says drive safe." "Joe Blows Brother, Democrat, State Representative says buckle up for safety". Ingnorant voting is worse than not voting.

Edit for spelling...hope I got it all.

Re: A.A,R.P. says DON'T VOTE!

12fter, please show me where I, the AARP, your mommy or your governer is telling you who to vote for.......or teling you not to vote...............

NOT the same as saying Don't vote if you don't know what your voting for, yet listening to your logic the two are synomonous.

Did you know, the idiot voters of this state actually voted for a interstate bullet-train that was projected to cost tens of BILLIONS of state dollars
Unbelievable, but it happened. It was repealed, but these morons pulled levers enmass for the stupid thing!

Well all I can say is then they didnt understand the issues very well huh? maybe they shouldn't have voted......

Twidget said it best......an ignorant vote is worse than not voting.

I agree....but hey, thats exactly what the AARP is trying to say, they just want you to be an informed American. Sick isnt it..............

Re: A.A,R.P. says DON'T VOTE!

The AARP is basically wasting their breath. The "old folks" in this country are very well informed on the issues that pertain to them, basically vote in a block, and most of them vote.

They want more SS, more Medicare, more script drug coverage, less capital gains tax, more senior services... they vote in their own self interest... now if the rest of the population did the same....
