With all of the uproar here lately I can't beleieve that this hasn't made it here yet. To me this cop was totaly in the wrong. Listening to the video it does sound like he tells the guy to get up, and then tells him don't get up. The guy says "ok, I'm getting up" and then the cop blasts him 3 times. The guy was a MP fresh from a tour in Iraq. Truly a sad case if you ask me.

Airman's Shooting Sparks FBI Inquiry

Probaby a 9 mil he was shot with. He was hit three times at point blank range and is going to be just fine. Why do ya'll still use those cap guns anyway? Cheaper rounds? Not being a smart arse...I'm truthfully curious. Didn't cops use to carry .45's and .38's? No one is gonna get up after one .45 at that range. But I digress, I think the cop should be in jail for attempted murder. He told the guy to get up, and when he complied, he was gunned down like varmin. Not cool.

Unless there is something not shown or seen that cop needs to be locked up for a long long time.

Most departments around here threw away the 9mm and have gone to a 40cal. Lighter than the 45 but knockdown power when needed.

I still carry a 9. I'm still looking for a barrel and slide in 40 for my Beretta. Back to the topic.
Swampnut, WGF, etc ya'll feel free to thrash this guy, he deserves it.

Try the second link in the story, the first one goes out sometimes.

I heard the guy pulled out his wallet when he was getting up and the cop thought it was a gun so he fired......not sure if its valid or not...

Re: A cops actions you should have been talking about

The last I heard about this shooting, the guy on the ground is an LT in the Air Force, home from Iraq on leave, was the passenger in a car that was involved in a high speed chase. The cops finally got the driver to pull over, there was a verbal exchange between a cop and the driver, the Air Force LT told the driver he didn’t have to say anything, that pissed off the cops so one cop pulled the LT out of the car, made him get face down on the ground, then told him to get up and shot him in the process.

I didn’t mention post anything about this incident in the other thread because the actions of the cop doing the shooting are so far beyond normal it doesn’t have anything to do with the integrity of law enforcement as a whole, the topic of the other thread. It is an isolated case. Yeah, very bad, but isolated nonetheless.

Here's another link to the video, upper right, be patient you have to watch the commercial

It is grainy and hard to tell, but I sure can't see how he reached for anything. There is no time between him starting to push off the ground and the shots

Whatever that cop was thinking he's in deep sheet now.

KTLA video

Two things come to mind here.
1 The deputy was in the wrong.
2 What watch commander would put a deputy back on the streets fresh out of a combat zone.
Especially a place like Iraq.

I can not defend the officer shooting the man but just maybe he had a quick flash back. There are a lot of factors in play here.
I can see no reason for him to shoot the man.
The perp that was driving the car should be locked up and he calls the other man his friend.
You don't put your friend into a situation like that.

A side note to dave. Most LEO's carry 40 cal glocks now with 40 S&W 165 GR. GDHP

If hit with that his stay in the hospital would have been a short one.

That video was disturbing and I wonder what he was thinking. There could be some explanation for it that isn't apparent from the video, but even if I let my imagination run completely wild I can't think of what it could be.

After a chase everyone in the vehicle is handcuffed, searched for weapons, and detained. I don't find the explanation that the passenger provoked the officer by giving the driver advice was a likely factor. He could be a hostage held against his will as a passenger in that car and he would have been secured and detained until this could be determined.

Was the officer fresh from Iraq or was the passenger who was shot?

It was the passenger. The passenger was an MP in the Air Force just home from Iraq.

Haven't discussed it because we don't know anything other than:

1) thankfully the man is alive
2) the cop shot him for some reason (valid or not?)
3) the video is grainy and we can be armchair juror and guess, or wait for a *hopefully* complete investigation to find out the facts

So until then, I guess we speculate and wait.

Re: A cops actions you should have been talking about

Some problems here.

#1 why did the officer shoot? How can anyone tell what he was thinking or what he saw.

#2 If the officer did pull the passenegr out of the car for what the passenger said, he should be held accountable.

#3 Why is the full story from the victims side, video, and all else displayed on the news BEFORE the officers trial? This would never happen to a bank robber. Would violate his rights.

#4 I can't get the video to load!

Even if the victim did something to deserve to be shot thank God he is alive. If he did nothing to warrant the shooting then the cop should be drug through the streets publicly flogged then jailed and held accountable for his actions.

It is cops like this that ruin it for the rest of us who work hard to do our job as we should.

Anyone have a video link that will work?

The video sucks so no conclusions can be drawn from it.

I think the cop may have accidentally shot the first time and then just instincitivley followed with two more.

Ken

Re: A cops actions you should have been talking about

Then I have no problems letting him "instinctively" spend the next 20-years or so in prison.

What impressed me the most from that video, the hump I can't get over, is the guy on the ground, hands out in front of him when he was shot. You can clearly him say "OK. I'm getting up now" then with hands still out in front of him, he slowly starts to rise when he is shot.

When I first saw the video, I was impressed at how cautious and non-threatening the guy on the ground was. At the time I didn't know he was a security officer in the Air Force. Makes sense, he knew what was going thru the cops mind and he was doing everything he was instructed to do and he was doing it slowly and in a non-threatening manner.
