Yes, that will do. You do have 2 solenoids. You said you had to click down about a hundred times, did it click when you pushed the button? If so, and since it works fine, you probably just have a faulty solenoid. (Down has the green wires to it). Just jump across the two big terminals of the solenoid and see if the motor works each time.
Oh, ok, I thought you now had the problem...... Nevermind.
Trim gauges are a waste of time. learn to trim by feel and you won't look at it even if it worked.

Your control should have another button on the handle, on the opposite side for trailer. Does it?
If it comes with trailer position then the problem is most likely the sender on the drive itself is bad. You can bypass the switch and allow the trim button to work. Just unplug the trim limit switch wires from the harness, and hook the harness wires together.
WOW... That likes so much nicer... Clean, tidy, safe... A job well done... Now go out and enjoy the fruits of your labour....![]()
Things look a lot better than when you started. For sure it's a lot safer. You may find that tach not a good idea on a boat. They aren't really designed for being out in the weather like a marine tach is.
On your trim problem, do you have the single or double solenoid type pump? Got a picture of it?
Don't know if this was mentioned but there appears to be an anode mounted to the starboard side of your MC-1 lower unit. That is a real crappy place to install one and anodes should never be painted. If the boat is not in salt or always trailered the anode is not really necessary there. If you want to keep it, remove it and take all the paint off of it and then reinstall with clean grounded mounting surface. It's not really necessary there because the trim tab is already an anode.
