Oh, ok, I thought you now had the problem...... Nevermind.

Trim gauges are a waste of time. learn to trim by feel and you won't look at it even if it worked.

Yes, that will do. You do have 2 solenoids. You said you had to click down about a hundred times, did it click when you pushed the button? If so, and since it works fine, you probably just have a faulty solenoid. (Down has the green wires to it). Just jump across the two big terminals of the solenoid and see if the motor works each time.

The mechanic that has been working on my boat did exactly what you described about jumping across the terminals... drive went right down when he did it, but would just click when I tried using the tilt toggle to go down... tilt up using the toggle was never a problem...only down...it would click a lot until finally moving the drive down...previous owner said "it has always done that" when I first bought it:facepalm:

I really appreciate all your input, Don. I have been learning so much from this forum and my neighbor as well. Heck, he learned something from me when I told him that the sterndrive didnt need to be removed in order to replace the shift bellow. I showed him the thread on the forum and he lit up a smile. He is amazed/impressed by iboats now.

While we are discussing trim...the trim on my throttle (see pic) work for down, but not up. TILT toggle works both ways. There is a disconnected purple/white line (which comes out of the engine harness), a dark blue solid wire with a black slotted end connector-that one the other split end is going to the tilt toggle switch - btw, and a purple also with a black end slotted connector under the dash.(See pics, plz) Should I figure out why the trim UP wont work on the throttle or just be happy with tilting functionality. I have been reading that "trimming" isnt exactly a necessity, but I figure if I'm close to having it fixed... maybe wrap it up. The wires in the back (going through the transom) ended up corroding away, but it wouldn't take much to re-feed them. Saw this on another thread... thought it might apply. Who knows? You? Thx! One more thing, is the trim buttoms on the throttle basically referred to as a trim "trailer switch?" P7050009.jpgP7050014.jpgP7050017.jpg

Your control should have another button on the handle, on the opposite side for trailer. Does it?
If it comes with trailer position then the problem is most likely the sender on the drive itself is bad. You can bypass the switch and allow the trim button to work. Just unplug the trim limit switch wires from the harness, and hook the harness wires together.

Things look a lot better than when you started. For sure it's a lot safer. You may find that tach not a good idea on a boat. They aren't really designed for being out in the weather like a marine tach is.
On your trim problem, do you have the single or double solenoid type pump? Got a picture of it?

Going to swap that tech out eventually for a marine one... the original tech did not work and the neighbor had it sitting around in his garage. I needed to know if everything was cool coming off the new coil.

Don't know if this was mentioned but there appears to be an anode mounted to the starboard side of your MC-1 lower unit. That is a real crappy place to install one and anodes should never be painted. If the boat is not in salt or always trailered the anode is not really necessary there. If you want to keep it, remove it and take all the paint off of it and then reinstall with clean grounded mounting surface. It's not really necessary there because the trim tab is already an anode.

Thx! Previous owner painted the outdrive before I purchased it... Not in saltwater and is always trailed. Thx for the input series!
