Then keep adjusting till the patter moves a little more to the bottom of the bar, then go up till it moves easily in and out.

Re: allignment help

well i tinkered more and im just gonna call it good.

the bar does not slide in with "one finger" just a tight... i would call the fit "snug"

i an almost push the bar in with my thumb... Almost.

and i need a very small tug to get it out.

im got a good grease patern on the tool. but still more on top then on bottom. nothing huge though...

so will just put the drive back on.. i got a new OEM gasket, but will i need any sealant on the gasket..

No sealant on the gasket at all. You will glue the big rubber seal in place however. I use grease to hold the water passage o-ring in place.

Well you adjusted up till it wouldn't go, and you adjusted down till IT wouldn't go, then split the difference (measured nut travel) and you'll have it.
I was just wondering though, if the motor pivits on the rear mounts and your adjusting the fronts, whats to say the rear pivit point isn't a tad high?
I have no practice with it so anything I say here is worthless.

Re: allignment help

so i glued that giant gasket in with weather stripping. do i need to wait to let it dry.. or just glue it and put the drive on...

How important is that gasket and what does it do

How important? Let's just say "very."

At this point it is probably a good idea for you to go to the "Adults Only" sticky at the top of the page and download the manual for your drive. It will help quite a bit.

Re: allignment help

yeah i made sure that gasket was in properly. cause when i put the drive on first it pushed half the gasket out of the seating towards the gimball.

So the job is finished now thank god.

But the only thing that makes me wonder is when i pulled the motor the bar slid in pretty easily.

now i lowered the crap out of the motor . i can see about 5 threads on each side where i lowered the screw, but the bar slides in fairly easy now too..

i guess we'll just have to see

Ahhhhhhh, now the rest of the story.
Did you get all the parts together properly for the rear mounts?? If not, you have a problem.

Re: allignment help

what do you mean rear mounts??????

EDIT: sorry i ment when pulled the drive (NOT motor)...

when i pulled the drive and checked the allignment initially the bar slid in with a little force.

now i lowered the ***** out of the motor, about 4-6 threads on each side.

and the bar still slides in about the same roughly. probably a little easier now.

i guess time will tell.. are there any tell tale signs that the motor is out of allignment????

i was under the impression i did not need to touch them

When you remove the engine, you have to remove the bolts that go thru the mounts and the double lockwasher and fiber washer.

Yes, there is a sign. it causes the rubber to come loose from around the aluminum splined hub in the coupler. It acts like a spun prop hub, only you usually get a smell of burned rubber from the engine compartment.
Then, you get to pull the engine and put in a new $350 coupler.

Re: allignment help

ok so i put the drive back on today. I have never done tis beofre but i was under the impression that because of the new alignment it was gonna "slide right in"

WRONG- i had to shove it to get it in. took 2 people...

is this right.... it seems like i droped the motor about 6 threads on each side...

the bar was sliding in all around before i put drive back on... i dont know about the 2 fingers deal like it said in the manual... more like a slight push to get in and slight tug to get out.

Re: allignment help

It should slide on easily. Sounds like something was definately not right. Perhaps some of the experts can suggest a reason for the difficulty.

Re: allignment help

Judging by your description, your still out of alignment. It should never take the force of 2 people to get it to slide in. I played with mine many hours up and down before I got it right. It should slide in easily at every 1/4 turn of the crank. If it goes in easily at TDC and then you turn it 90 or 180 degrees and it gets tighter you are still off. Also as Don said if one of your rear mounts has sagged you will never get it right. This was my case, sat for 2 years, mount sagged and coupler took a set that way. Had to change mounts and coupler to get it right. If it's not as close to dead on as you can get it, it wont last very long. The coupler that is. Keep trying, you will get it.

Re: allignment help

okay. well i have it to where i the bar will slide in and out with minimal effort.

grease marks are all the way around the bar..

the only prob i had was getting the drive back on. it was just a pain in the ***... i was under the impression that if the motor was aligned then it would just slide right in...

And when we say the bar should slide in easily... how easy are we talking about...
