i have a 22ft cuddy cabin with a sunbrella curtain - i would like to change it to aluminum with doors -any advice would be welcome

I am imagining there is a way, with maybe duckbills and some rivets, if you have no facility to weld nor have anyone to do it.

But we still have no idea what you want, we'd like to see pics, or maybe some visual indication of what you are looking for.

grank- pre cut with cardboard patterns-see how they fit-you can use 45degree angle stock for the outside corners. reevit sheets to inside. bed the aluminum on mastic (silicone or polturethane) before you reevit them togeather.

I'm thinking some of the honeycomb composite structural panel stuff is what you are looking for.

There are several with much experience with the material I refer to - I can't even recall the proper name for the stuff - but I can see it clear as a bell in your application. They'll chime in shortly with the details.

I believe your inquiry will be readily fulfilled - much to all of our (and yours) satisfaction.

I think it's called Nicor. It is (2) aluminum Sheets bonded with a honeycomb composite material sandwiched between, to form a unitary structural panel. It is strong and lightweight.

I have a weird question...
Your boat is glass right?
Whats the reason you want to go with the alu??
I myself used nidacore/honeycomb, You can buy the sheets pre-glassed or glass em yourself..Light,rot,u.v, and chemical proof ,easy to cut,molde or bend,and pretty inexpensive.

What kind of boat is it ?

What your plans are with the doors COULD look good,I do not know how handy you are but it would take craftmanship to make it look part of the pilothouse and not something you stuck on there if you catch my drift.Again i dont know your level of handyness so to say.
If you go with composite you are looking at fiberglass,resin,possibly gelcoat,glass,etc.etc.could get expensive.
Since you do not weld yourself,If you go with the alu,You might consider to get a specialist to give you an estimate...although it would be fun to us all to have a new project on our hands!
Remember there are several materials to choose from.And welcome to i boats!

the boat is aluminum 22ft made here locally on the west coast in Canada, the aluminum used was 5083 11/32 for the hull and 1/4 inch for the rest, i was told it weighed 4500 lbs but it has never been weighed. it has suzuki outboards both 4 stroke 225, and a 9.9, suzuki was not my choice it came with the boat, always had honda but i keep an open mind. it has some things i would like to change in time. none of the windows in the cabin open and i would like a solid cuddy door. it seems a bit bow heavy because when it rains some water find its way foreward, not much but i dont like it, so a door would solve that problem unless someone could offer some other remedy, but also a boat is more secure with a solid door- i think. does one use lexan or safety glass ?????? so many questions. i will post more pics and look foreward to your advice, and thank you all for showing interest.

Oh,I see.
I mistook your boat for glass...
If its the water your worried about you could maybe keep it out by ways of a ledge on the deck,
I used lexan(plexiglass) but for security as you mentioned safety glass would be the way to go.

but he can still use the nidacore to build a wall and install a door, right? on his alyoumeeneeum boat?
