Re: Am I a Dork

I had my bow seats redone and got them back yesterday afternoon. Got it in the Shack just as the storm hit. So my wife climbs in the bow, cracks a beer and sits in the boat watching the storm. I think we can add her to the list:D

Re: Am I a Dork

This is a great thread!

Our whole family has been seen by the neighbors sitting in our 2755 many times, as I park her in the back yard and because of the hight, the whole block can see us.

My sister & her husband have even slept on her when they visited for 3 days, before heading to the lake :) on the weekend.

Yep, you are probably a dork. With that said, last week I had the boat hooked up to the Yukon, and I am sitting in the boat with a new casting rod, practicing with a 1/2 oz. jig. All was going well till I got a longer cast off than I was wanting ... almost hooked a passing car. Now that would have sent the drag a-singing! Wonder if I could have landed him on my 12 lb test? I know I didn't have a big enough net!

This thread reminds me of that scene in one of the Mel Gibson/Danny Glover Lethal Weapon movies. They were drinking beer on Glover's boat in his driveway - before the bad guys blew up the house I think.

Glover does seem to be a bit of a dork, although I would not accuse Gibson of that - at least not to his face.:D

Update: Dateline 12:04 am, Delaware.

Thank you all for your replys and comments, I have to say they were interesting. However, I had some serious fun with the neighbor. I called some friends and family and asked them to come over. My neighbor was setting up out for a family picnic. My friends and family came over and this is what we did.

We did this while the neighbor was outside with his guests. I moved my boat to the center of my driveway, six of us sat in the boat, wearing lifevests, the muffs were on the lower end and the motor was running. We all had fishing poles with sinkers and were casting them thruout the driveway and lawn. We were yelling steer port, steer starboard that's were the fish our. After we got done fishing (caught a few 6 packs) my 77 year old pop climbed in the tube attached to the boat and yelling faster, faster. My wife sprayed the boat, us and pop with water from the garden hose. We had a blast, one of the neighbors guest came over and asked to party with us, we were more fun.... God, Revenge is sweet with drunken friends and family. Well off to bed to relive this day...

Good Nite

As long as you don't jump out to pee in the water I would say you are fine!! I have owned three boats and done this on everyone of them!! Great question though.

I'm late in this discussion, but you could always come back with "I'd rather look like a dork than act like a jerk" (of course, it depends on if you care about his reaction).

Re: Am I a Dork

EVERY SINGLE time I go out to the boat for any reason at all, my 9 y/o granddaughter asks if she can go too. She climbs on the front over the cabin with a towel to sun, and grants me permission to come aboard, and pouts when I'm done working and it's time to go in .

Life is supposed to be fun. If it's not, you're doing it wrong. At age 55, I seldom worry about what others think, and have been seen racing shopping carts with laughing grandchildren through Wal-mart isles.

Is there an official Driveway Captains certificate. Because I just earned mine this morning.

I am now the proud owner of an Invader 18 foot Bowrider. She runs like a dream even on land.

Planning on doing that myself tonight as I put around the boat doing a few things before the weekend.

I think you're neighbor has 'boat envy' :D

Heck no you aint no dork! I was just out today doing it in my new boat, but i feel a little hostility from my old boat over on the other side of the yard. I think hes got the envy now! Dont worry old feller i wont forget about ya!!!!

Re: Am I a Dork

I was out NOT being a dork all morning! I spent most of the day yesterday getting the boat cleaned up & de-winterized. Oil change, plugs, points, drive oil etc. So this morning I took my coffee, reloading magazine and radio out and climbed aboard to enjoy a little 'me time' while the family still slumbered.
After a while I hooked up the hose, pulled off the dog house, and spent while just listening to her idling. :D

If anyone asks, I wasn't just out 'playing motor-boat', it was 'an extended idle speed cooling system test'. ;) :D:D:D
