lol, yeah...I know! should see the front half of the shop, it is full of stuff...between the jobs and the stock, I had to take my old skeeter and put it in the back storage area....time for it to see some water...even if it is just what accumulates on the tarp

Judge,

I have been absent for a few months (sold the boat, work, family, etc...) WOW, I am not only impressed with the quality of your work, but the blessing that you've found something you love to do...may you never work another day in your life!!! Go where the business takes you...RV's, Marine, Furniture...with your attitude, you'll make many people happy with their choice in a craftsman!

Ciao,
Brett (no longer bajaunderground, but bajaless!)

Great looking stuff !
Is the leather more difficult to sew than the vinyl ?

Re: Another one...Upholstery

it is more difficult in the fact that it has no stretch, so everything has to be made to exactly the right size...had to tear all the old seams of old seat and draw it out, then cut and put back together...make hash marks along all the seams so when your sewing you can line everything up exactly like the old one was.

I also sprayed my sewing table with some silicone to make the leather glide easier, as it has a tendency to stick some (much like sewing face down vinyl, it likes to grab the table

Lookin' good Judge. Ya those L shaped deck boat seats are fun ain't they? Nice score on the wide arm machine. Betcha never regret that purchase. I'd kill for one ...

Not much new to report here. Been doin the usual array of biminis, t-tops'n dodgers. Lotta repairs'n restitches the beginning of snowbird season. Be glad when those are over with. Keeps beer in the fridge but kinda boring, I'd much rather start from scratch.

Here's a lil dinghy cover I was kinda proud of:

Take care.

looking good V153, you are always well received in this thread, you played a big part in my opening of this business and your advice has gone a long way here!

so here is the seat finished....unlike vinyl leather tends to look a little looser

Aw shucks Judge ... [blushing]. I'm just a old worn out canvas slinger. My upholstery skills pale in comparison.

It is your enthusiasm and willingness to tackle tough jobs that keep me going sometimes.

But while we're braggin:

Dodgers/Spray Hoods are one of my favorite things to build. This was a recover on the owners existing frame which tbh was kinda effed up. (Main frame should stack fwd.) Couple wrinkles but we did the best we could.

And remember: If it's too tight it'll stretch & if it's too loose it'll shrink ...

Re: Another one...Upholstery

Ya if'n you use beefy enough clear vinyl (30ga+) there's no reason not to sew yer zipper(s) to it. Then slit the vinyl, fold the zipper back, & bind the edge. Gives it a finished look'n hides the zipper pull(s). Sew your zippers in long enough to start the pulls, then trim em'n bury the ends under your facing.

Here's a lil difrent dodger:

Re: Another one...Upholstery

Here's a lil project I knocked out today. My buddy broke the old seat seat back a couple weeks ago. Just cut a new base & back outa pvc board. Used the old hinges. Was gonna wrap them but decided to make the cushions removeable. Sunbrella 'charcoal tweed' with 3" med density foam. Flaps @ top & front, tabbed @ bottom & rear. Nuthing fancy, but comfy & functional.

Now to do the helm seat, the two bolsters, fix the floor, and replace the carpet. Sigh, it never ends ...

Re: Another one...Upholstery

haven't used canvas for seating yet, but don't see any problem there, it could be a good option if you don't like vinyl....I have some outdoor materials, used for patio furnishings that would probably be cool too...I like that
