Re: Any suggestions for cutting tree limbs???..

A 500 grain topped about 8' of a pine tree at the range one day and it was instant! I was going to suggest a rifle cut but he is worried where it will land.:D

Ah!, now I understand, a few guys at work suggested soonething like that also, funny how hunters think alike

I called one guy who cuts trees, saw it and said nope, can't get his truck down there. Need to find others. Will keep looking.

What? The limb or the bullet. Don't know about the limb but the bullet will land somewhere in the next county.:D

Keep looking for a good pro.

Even if they can't get a bucket truck close, they know how to rope and lower limbs so they won't damage anything. The ones around our cottage also know how to climb those trees to do what they need to. Of course, without a bucket truck it will probably cost more.

Anytime you cut anywhere near a structure or anything valuable, hire the pro. Our next door neighbor at the cottage hired a pro to take down a tree next to their cottage. No damage to their or our place, but section of trunk rolled off and downed a power pole, requiring an emergency call to (and emergency rates from) the power company. You just never know the tension or force lines built up in a tree trunk.

We have a tree that needs to come down ... talked about doing it myself, but too close to driveways and utility lines for my comfort. Could piece it down with the .45-70, but it is a bit too big for that (about 36 inches in diameter). Called the tree trimmer and it is $180 to drop it and I will cut it up from there. I will go the safer way and pay the $180!

Some equipment rental places have small lifts that can be trailered behind a truck. I've used these before I got my bucket truck. Sometimes they are handy in getting into places where you cannot get a big truck in. However, it may be just as expensive as hiring someone.

Reminds me of the time I had to call the local volunteer fire department. They asked, "How do we get there?"

I responded, "Don't y'all still have that big red truck?" (joke)

I just had an insurance guy come out to give me a quote on innsurance for my docks, He was on thee volunteer fire department, and he found my place with no problem. I guess tree climers dont know how to get around.

Here is how I would handle that problem:

I'd invite several of my "good old boys" friends over for a cook out with lots of beer. Let beer simmer in stomachs. Then I'd challenge any one and say "I bet you can't cut that there branch off that tree." :D:D

OK, I've pulled all the boats, perhaps we could split the 10k first prize. Need to come up with a title for the video!

It looks as if you could tape a hook onto the end of a 10' pole, and pull the end
of the branch into the fence of the deck. You could then tie the section of
branch you want to cut to the deck. Then cut the section with the pole saw
at the highest point you can reach.
With the branch tied to the deck, it won't fall very much. Make sure you have
a couple of helpers around. Partway solution is better than no solution.

Another lasting solution is to forget about it. In another year, probably no
more complaints. Enjoy the privacy.

Well, I got some quotes for cutting them down............

It would be cheaper for me to cut the entire tree, let it fall on the docks and boats, and replace them!

Gee, these guys want lots of money. And renting a pole saw - $100.00 for a day, and it only reaches 8 feet!

may end up having to leav it - till it comes down, and insurance will cover it!

How about renting scaffolding and taking the limb out in pieces? When I worked at the local country club, we had a big oak that was up against the clubhouse. Like your situation, no way to get any heavy machinery back there. Rented several sections of scaffolding and took out the limbs in pieces as not to damage the scaffold and for our own safety.

Gee, Now why didn't I think of that! ;) Thats why I asked the question. I think MAYFLOAT is onto something! I can place the scaffolding onto the dock and secure it to the deck!

Thanks! problem solved! I'll update you guys with the results!

Well, This year has been somethin, with the flood, I'v ebeen a dock worker, got all 'decked-out' now a tree trimmer! . Well the wife says I'm a Jack-A** of all trades!
