Re: Apartment manager problem

I put my parking pass on my work truck today, and parked about where the caprice usually is.

got a voice-mail
"you cant park your work truck here, it doesn't belong to you"

I also found out she isn't only doing this to me, everybody.

Joking aside, it's good you're willing to consider her position. You should tell her you recognize how tough her job is. She'd probably appreciate it.

If works gives you a truck to drive, YOU are responsible for it. So technically it belongs to you. You speed in it, you get the ticket.

Is she running everybody's tags to see who has a work vehicle? What if that tofu eating guy down in the next building gets a Prius to drive from work ( as a company car ). Is he required to park somewhere else too?

You're in between a rock and hard place. You either have to smother her with kindness or find another place to live.

I'm so glad I own my house ( in a NON HOA area )

Good luck
Jeff

I store my boat, jetski, ATC, dirt bike, skateboard,
Sell the toys and fix the car !!. Then put the car in the garage where it belongs in the first place. :)

I could see the apartment manager's point to a degree, until the business about your work truck. She's just being a pain in the patoot on that issue.

Ask her to provide contractual documentation on this one. Sounds like a pi$$ed off, power trippin' b!tch to me.

So would the same apply if you had a leased car? rental car? borrowed your brother's car for a week?

Time to either stand tough or fold and run.

Standing tough would be contacting the company/owner she works for through an attorney.

You could probably get one attorney to work for a group of the tenants.

ok with the truck she is incorrect. unless in your contract it states no work vehicles with signage on them. nothing she can do, if she persists inform her you will contact the property owner or the police. at this point if you do not have the work truck line in your contract she is harassing you.
first step is to talk to her about it nicely though. inform her that it is technically your vehicle as it is assigned to you and you are responsible for it.

Yeah the work truck thing is completely out of line. Pretty sure half my neighborhood has an HVAC van in the driveway. Not mention service is the only thing left of our economy. Good luck to her finding renters who only have one, registered to them, vehicle.

Why blame the manager? He read the rental contract and signed.

Same if one bought a Condo, if you read the Doc's and it stated that you can not have an unregistered vehicle on premisses who's fault is it?

My neighbor evicted the tennant the other day because the rental contract stated that the renters brother could only stay for a week, the renter asked if his brother could stay another month or two, neighbor said no, renter and brother are gone. Re-rented apartment in a day.

???

I think every responder has been on management's side in this argument...well, up until she started telling him he couldn't park his work truck.

Move. Before the SS round you all up.

Seriously, when a place gets to be that big of a headache, i would start looking at options.

My mom was a prop. manager for 8 years of a "mobile home park" let me tell you, apartments got nothing on those places since people like to assume the land they're parked on is theirs.

Expired tags, is a no no, in any rental situation. I understand you must repair the car to get the tags. If you have two parking passes, and two vehicles that are legal, up to date on tags/insurance etc, she needs to zip it up. Work vehicle or not, it's not defunct, or abandoned, it fits in their guidelines. When I was a cable contractor, we had a few guys who got ticketed for having a "commercial vehicle" in their HOA/Rental communities. Thats what you need to check you contract for, does it actually state commercial vehicles. If it does, sorry, you're up a creek.

If thats the case and you don't want to move, I suggest finding somewhere you can store the work truck, if your employer doesnt have a lot large enough for you to store it there (friends house, storage parking etc) and drive your personal car there to get the truck when you need it. This resolves all of the issues she has.

If you cant find anything regarding the commercial vehicle thing, go above her head, goto the property management company (if there is one) or the property owner; for her harassing the tenants. Get the guy with the beer drinking to back you up, any other people with issues with her "picking" on them. YOU pay them, to live there. You uphold your end of the lease- keeping your vehicles running and registered, pay your rent, etc, and they uphold their end, basically providing you a nice place to live (grass cut, appliances in working order etc..).

The contract didn't say it had to be registered, that's why I assumed it was ok, and for a long time it was, until recently.
It does however say ''or inoperable"
And legally, it probably IS inoperable, as it cannot legally be driven, parked, or stored on public roads.

So I see the error in my ways and its getting fixed.

ok with the truck she is incorrect. unless in your contract it states no work vehicles with signage on them.

That is the thing! its a stock 2008 Silverado.
No signs, ladder rack, tool box or tool bed, without a dent or scratch on it.
The only reason she knows its isn't mine because I told her it wasn't when I moved in.

Her: "do you need another pass for your truck?"
Me: "Oh, thats the work truck, I'll park it on the street, I'll only keep the Caprice in the back"
Her: "You sure? Ill give you another pass"
Me: "No, I don't want to make anybody mad by parking 2 vehicles back there"
Her: "Oh thanks, most people wouldn't care"

Mind you the pass is just a thing that hangs from your Mirror, and isn't assigned to a vehicle.

You try to be nice, and it comes and bites you in the butt
