At storage you mean folded inside a bag or inflated at low pressure, a matter to inflate completely all compartments and see if any part has become unglued, check floor fabric, transom, oars locks. When boats are brand new they come factory vacumed, folded nicely. If the sib is in mint condition save some cash.

If you would like to transport car topped the 310 inflated, that is well tight/secured, get roof racks and forget the issue of inflating/deflating every time you intend to use it. Check to see if it's legal or not to transport a sib that way, down here you could transport a donkey on a roof as long it's not larger or wider than the car. Some cheap ideas check, If you intend to use a long shaft engine on a short shaft transom, will need to raise middle transom by 5" or buy a long shaft engine adapter plate that hooks on transom. Go for the MM hypalon nice sib & price savings.

I am from Sacramento, CA. I think it is legal as i have seen some people did that. One of my friends carried a hard shell kayak on his SUV before. I hope the rack is not too expensive.
Before i make the important decision, against all my family members protests LOL (They are no fun!), can you give me some thought on this Walker Bay boat? Look like the boat has more room inside and the tubes are 2" larger than Mercury. I like the design also. The closest Walker Bay dealer is like 2hr from me, if i ever need the service. Mercury is in the neighborhood.

You can make yourself 2 wooden 10 cm width racks with same sib width as seen in previous pics, if you car has lateral rails with clefts the better to secure rack into them, sib weight will lock them into place.

First you were tempted for the hypalon MM 310 sib, now for the hypalon 340 WB. Both are great sibs from reputed brands, should stand well for their respective warranties. Would suggest a 340 instead of the 310, roomier, can handle a bigger engine in near future without changing to next size sib.

If both prices are near same have these points in consideration: Width, Tube Diameter, Hypalon thickness (denier)

Sib width, side to side typical around 1.50 mt, which one is wider, a wider tube diameter will splash less water than narrow ones. As both being hypalon, ask their tech specs, typical 0.8/0.9 mm fabrics, if 1.00 mm the best (just found in much larger sibs/ribs)

If being very technical, I would go for the one that has larger tube diameter, wider sib overall and thickest hypalon material. Any 340 will work perfect with a portable Tohatsu 9.8 HP, 2 or 4 strokes. Good luck.

Well, I have settled down for these two, Walker Bay Odyssey 340 AFH 2008, and Mercury 340 Airdeck 2007. All are 11'+ and made of Hypalon. The Walker Bay tubes are 18" diameter and made in 2008, Merucy is only 16" made in 2007. Look like it gonna be the Walker Bay then 8))

Will let you guys know once i hit "Place Order"



UPDATE: Just bit the bullet and ordered Walker Bay 340 11" Hypalon Air Floor. I should be thinking of a name for it now Thanks for putting up with all of my questions.

Congrats for the nice purchase, if you are buying from Defender, ask them for a pressure gauge that fits the WB air valve, inflate all chambers gradually & evenly untill you reach 3.0 psi, the air deck needs at least 10 psi to feel hard and rock the least. Now you need the engine, have you researched the Tohatsu 9.8 HP engine ? don't confuse with 9.9. Weights a bit more than 6HP, still portable and will move the 340 much better.

Yeap, you are right, that weight corresponds to the 4 strokes family, if available in your area try to get same 2 strokes versions, all 6,8.9.8 weights the same, just 57 Lbs/26 Kg, so the 9.8 HP would be ideal for your application.

As much as i want more power, i want my engine runs quiet and no smoke and smell. Some places here won't allow 2-stroke engines. I guess we can't have everything, sad!


UPDATE:OK, i just digged up some reviews on the 6hp tohatsu/nissan. People complain about too much viberation because it is single cylinder. They had older model though, not 2010. I don't know if that makes big difference. I hate having to decide again...darn it!

BTW, is this wise to do the thing this guy mentioned?


"i own a nissan 6hp its on a 175lb inlatable w/fiberglass hull it weighs 194lbs. because of its hull design it w/1 person will aproach 20 knots.the kicker being w/2 people it would not even break 10 knots.but i found a few tricks for more power and now with 2 people it hit 18knots and 24knots w/1 1st and easiest trick is to pull the choke out just a bit be careful to much and will bog but listen closly and you will hear the rpm differece and speed i would say 10-15% 2nd trick is a hotter spark plug made by ngk will give you a few more rpms.3rd trick is to use 4-stroke racing fuel 1 to 1 1/2 gallons mixed w/ 93 octane in 5gallon gas can be careful only buy 4-stroke 100 octane gas this will not hurt your motor at all probably will run cooler and save your single head from burning up w/all the stress on motor w/87 octane my motor is a 2003 nissan 6hp that still starts on 1st pull so actualy w/ a few inexpensive ways to get 2-3 more hp out your outboard. try this and i think you would be pretty satisfied good boating"

Let experienced 4 strokes mates like TG, Pvany answer this tech issue, have no experience on 4 strokes whatsoever. Would like to know the life expectancy of that engine performing with such "experiments". The vibration should be minimum, had a 1 cylinder 5 HP and was not bad at all as to be an annoying issue. 2010 models should be same as previous years. If you would like to dragster your new engine, will lose factory warranty if something wrong happens to it. Personally would stay away from fingering my engine to get slight more power.

Besides a trailer can't think of any other method without drilling holes, placing screws to attach wheels. I think Defender has a U bracket with wheels that mounts on sib transom, the only issue is that you must turn sib upside down to secure bracket to transom to transport from car to shore, place engine on once turned up side down again on shore. Anyway get youself 3 mates, place engine on transom and using lateral handles and bow d'ring carry sib to shore, that combo should weight about 60/65 kilos.

Yeap! that's the one, Item #451102 would be a nice alternative, you'll have to drill some small holes to transom to place screws, has wide wheels, perfect for sandy beaches and overall terrain. Post whatever you are trying to invent.
