And live well

Friday the highbuild sat and cured then saterday and sunday I filled all the pin holes and a few imperfections in the high build.

Everywhere you see green tape we're pin holes or an imperfection or run that had to be filled, then sanded with 240 for the next coat.

Close up of pin holes.

Console tape

If you notice the torn paper in the casting deck compartment I forgot about that when priming: )

I am planing on doing most of the primed area fighting lady yellow http://www.awlgrip.com/support/colorcards/Pages/ColorCard.aspx?card=Standard
and white (one of the fourteen) I am planning on painting the live-well hatch white as well as the top of the O/B cowl yellow

I have them primed as well just not pictured.

Yesterday I sprayed the 545 awl-grip primer (looks great and I have not found any holes yet!!) which is curing and awaiting a sanding of 400gt this weekend.

Re: Barracuda Restoration

Ohh yes the sanding never ends ever. Just a little wet sanding left now :)

I missed photo's of the 545 primer but it looked exactly the same as the high build, just a few less runs.

Last tuesday I had the white painted on the transom and deck border.

I added the garboard plug tonite after the paint had time to harden

I added some trailer guides and a self centering stern roller to add with some loading difficulty.

Switch panels painted white as well.

Re: Barracuda Restoration

Today was a busy day of gel-coating compartments.

being in the high twentys today with high humidity I had to work quickly once I catalyzed to avoid a brush stuck in the pot.

The cooler/livewell got two coats of gel the first without air dry so I didn't need to sand inbetween.

may292010shuswaphighbuildsand004.jpg

The gas tank locker got one coat of gel because it was previously coated.

may292010shuswaphighbuildsand010.jpg

Under the console and seat boxes two coats of gel we're applied

Non-skid was applied. I added grip-tex to the first coat of deck gel then did the second coat with pure gel coat for a smooth finish

Tommorow I plan on installing bilge pump, hull fittings, transom eyes and paper off for the yellow to come. Finally the end is in sight!!

Re: Barracuda Restoration

The fighting lady yellow is on and it looks beautiful, all the sanding has been worth it, and Zero runs to my eye !!! The painter at my boat shop sprayed both the base white and yellow.

The flash from the camera makes the color look different in a few of the photos.

I might add black pin striping to the top of the cowl as well.

Now I have to sit still for a few days while the paint is hardening so it will last the next thirty years just as shiny.

Re: Barracuda Restoration

Thanks, it was alot of work but if has definetly paid off. It was sprayed with a gravity fed gun with three coats of awl-grip.

I can't wait to put the rub rail on to really bring out the yellow. Not many boats are fighting lady yellow where I live (you are the same area ).

Tonitght carpet instillation will start (I have pre-cut) depending on the speed of that I am going to be hitting the water this weekend!!!

Re: Barracuda Restoration

The carpet went in quickly because I pre fit and cut all the pieces, the rub rail was super fast because I had three extra sets of hands and rivited it on in 10 minutes. Instaling the black insert was the most time consuming because it would not slide in so I had to heat 3ft sections at one time to make it pliable enough to push in.

Unfortunatly my fuse panel will not come in until tuesday so I cannot hook up the final connections of my wiring but I will probably run most of it and can at least install the components.

I will be installing the engine and contols tommorow along with the seats.

Re: Barracuda Restoration

I hope I can have the patience to do the body work on my boat half that well! Can't wait to see the finished product.

I noticed your seat bases...I was thinking of doing similar in my boat instead of pedestals since the floor literally contacts the hull right under them. I was thinking of sneaking in a livewell/baitwell under them.

Re: Barracuda Restoration

Well I had the maiden Voyage on monday and Shuswap performed flawlessly, With a 1' chop she powered right through very smoothly. Best of all she felt so strong with new stringers and deck. Now I can't wait to finish the wiring and do some serious boating.

Here's the cooler
