it was a quick remark.. it doesnt have to make sence

Yes, but I no longer own a bajaOriginally posted by waterone1:
Gee, this is kind of funny.....someone who owns a
Baja ripping on Bayliners. Last time I checked Baja was an ENTRY level go fast boat....just ask any Sonic or Fountain owner.
Would this not help put some of this to rest? Or is it, as I suspect, because the whole "bilgeliner" thing is crap?

Why do so many of you try so hard to keep the unsuspecting public out of a boat you know absolutely nothing about except that it's lower priced, and therefore a better value than all the other brands? I'm especially puzzled by Bondo. He has a lot of experience and generally gives good advice...but his "bilgeliner" schtick undermines his credibility to any intelligent reader who follows these discussions and weighs facts against facts (not opinions).

So I ask again, and this is dead simple, guys: Where should I look in my brand new Bayliner for evidence of cheap, lightweight construction, or any evidence of it being a "lower quality boat"? I will take a picture and post it for all to see. Come on! All you uneducated blowhards must be able to come up with something if Bayliners are as bad as you say!I absolutely defy anyone to tell me what's wrong with my Bayliner. I've thrown down this gauntlet before, and got no intelligent responses. Tell me where to look, I'll take a picture and post it here for all to see.

Any takers this time around, all you know-it-alls?
Which should tell you something about passing judgement without knowing the facts behind it.

The two pics I posted, the one of me in my boat and the other showing two Crownlines, were taken on the South Branch of the Chicago River on April 24th. Anyone familiar with that stretch of waterway knows that there is NOTHING THERE. Absolutely nothing. No boats, docks, marinas....nothing. Its a man made barge canal that is 21 feet deep right up to the shore.

The pic of me and my boat was taken by the 28 foot black and white Crownline. It is a STAGED picture...that is to say it was carefully orchestrated via VHF radio.

The speed was 57 mph, and yes it was verified by GPS. I can bring the gentleman into the discussion if you would like. I will reach 60 when I swap the carb to a 4bbl. I am running a SS prop which is giving me the extra mph over the 53 mph stock. MINION here in this thread runs with me, and will verify that speed.

The picture itself is misleading. I was not really in a bend in the river, though it appears like it. The open water you see behind me is a barge turning basin. I intentionally laid my boat over on its side for the camera. The land you see is not actually a straight shore, but a point of land. If you want I can post a map of the stretch of channel, its very convoluted in shore.

Hopefully this explains a little more. Safety is always the upmost importance to me....I am Coast Guard certified for the year. Oh yeah, I basically grew up around boats my entire life, and I lived in the 1000 Islands for 13 years (Hey Bondo, what marina are you at??Originally posted by f_inscreenname:

I do have a question or two though. mtrainTurbo 1st; You are getting 60+ mph out of a 4.3L Capri??? Seems a little fast. Must be a very light boat. You may want to check that with GPS. 2nd; Is that you in the picture with the caption Oh yeah, I recall seeing something about Bayliners being underpowered. So here is a pic of me struggling to get the boat up to speed. That speed being 60 mph, I was still at 57 and climbing? I really don't think that picture (57mph running between a boat and a very close shore line) is a good example of someone acting as a responsible Bayliner representative.
