Another bayliner resto!;) This has been sitting in my driveway for a few years, it finally made it into the garage. Just thought i would start a thread so it is easier to get the great knowledge when needed.:) Its a 1983 19 foot going to due stringers and floor and transom and foam. Also adding a removable fishing platform, the fun has begun. Me and my uncle will be tackling this project. He is the one in the pic. [URL=http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/mrchev20/media

Now there's a summer long project boat. So what mercruiser motor do you have there a 140? You pics look fine to me.

Mrchev,

Good luck! I am working through a 1984 Bayliner Capri 1600.

BTW, as to photo resizing, I use a free downloaded program called FastStone Photo Resizer. It is reasonably simple to operate. You can downsize the pics before loading them to Iboats.

There's a pic floating around here with the transom specs I don't have saved, but I think it's basically got to be between 2 and 2⅛", and flat withing ⅛".

Photo bucket seems to automatically set mine to the proper size.

thanks for info on program to resize i will check it out, and for the specs on the transom. Texanincincy do you have a thread going so i can keep a eye on your progress.I think it will work out, kinda like a fish/ski boat. Would be nice to have a outboard more floor room!

Using photobucket, you can select auto-size the pix in the settings somewhere in your 'account's' settings

Re: bayliner bowrider rebuild

does anyone have a rough list of materials i will need to fiberglass the stringers, transom, deck it a 19 foot boat. What is better to finish with if you are painting the deck csm or cloth to give you a better finish. What type of paint can i use the is less expensive then gel coat. Can i use the long hair fiberglass that they sell in a can at the auto parts store for peanut butter. Not much to post about haven't got to work on it this weekend.

I'd recommend a final layer of 6oz cloth for a painted deck. I like to use Acrylic Enamel Paint with added Hardener but not sure if you can get it in Canada. You can use the Hairy Bondo but it's more expensive than making your own.

15 -20 Gallons Polyester Laminatin Resin
10 qts Cabosil
1 lbs 1/4" chopped strand fibers
(1 qt of Glass bubbles IF you need/want to make your own Fairing putty)
25 yds 1.5 oz CSM
15 yds 1708 Biaxial Cloth
10 yds 6oz cloth for final layer of Deck
2 dozen 1 qt plastic mixing buckets and stir sticks
1 - 1/2" x 5" Fiberglass "Bubble" roller
2 dozen Short nap 6" nylon roller covers and trays
2 dozen 3" Chip Brushes (cut ? the length of the bristles off)

Re: bayliner bowrider rebuild

thanks for the list of materials. I called today to order materials from us composite and the won't ship poly resin because it is considered haz mat over the border:mad-new:. So i called and talked to customs and i can bring it over my self just cant ship it over, it has to do with shipping company's polices. So i guess i have to try and find a supplier in Michigan because its $65 a gallon here . got a little progress done on the boat. stringers cut and started on transom cutouts. I will try to get some pics up over the weekend enjoy your weekend, its my sons birthday on saturday so probly no boat work this weekend.

Re: bayliner bowrider rebuild

Jayboat66 i just looked at your thread and i hope my glass lays down as nice as yours. the side panels look great.
I just got back this afternoon from flint michigan, went and picked up 10 gallons of resin from Advance fiberglass, The service was excellent, they even gave me the MSDS sheet so i wouldn't have a problem coming home and the price was the same as US composite with the hazmat fee. US composite wouldn't ship across the border, i did order my glass and foam from them it should be here in a couple more days. They had really good customer service.I got the grinding done, that was terrible. the stringers are done and transom just have to PB stringers and wrap the transom and PB and wait for materials.

Re: bayliner bowrider rebuild

another question. I want to replace the bilge pump but not sure what size. Is there a rule of thumb for minimum GPH, and then go one bigger for peace of mind.

750 gph as primary duty on automatic float then a 1500 as backup mounted higher than first on automatic float wired to horn so if tripped on to work, you are awakened by the horn to a sinking issue with the boat.
