Re: Bayliner Capri unintentional restoration project

Boat looks great. You should be proud. I'm sure you'll get the kinks worked out in short order. How did the seats come out? I noticed in another thread that you mentioned wishing you knew when you started what you know now. Sounds like another restoration in your future. ;)

Thanks Redstrat. Yeah I would like to do another one but it will have to wait until time and funds allow...which may not be for quite a while! The seats are still with the upholsterer. I will post photos of them once I get them back and installed.

They don't call them sea trials for nothing...maybe we should change the name to sea tribulations...

No matter, "Flash" looks beautiful sitting in its natural environment and with all you have gone through to get this far, the few little gremlins that are popping up will caged and tamed in no time, especially with the awesome help from friends like the marine engineer...a pint to both of you, on me!

Cheers!:thumb:

Cheers GT! I can't wait to get her back in the water...hopefully for a more successful sea trial mark 2!

My 2nd Splash was 100% successful and made everything worth the effort. Made me forget about all the previous issues. I'm certain yours will be the same. Have a Great...

Re: Bayliner Capri unintentional restoration project

Just a quick update. Things are a bit slow on the boat front unfortunately. The boat building 'holiday' has come to an end so I'm away working full time again which is much needed to replenish funds! I need to replace the broken axle on the boat trailer before I can safely take it out to the sea again for a second splash which is pretty frustrating. I've bought a new (second hand) gear box off ebay so the boat is pretty much ready to go but stuck on the broken trailer in a boat yard.

Like you said, the 'ol money tree needs a bit of refreshing every so often, but that's just part of the fun...
We'll have our ups and downs in this crazy endeavor, but in the end with perseverance and determination, oh yeah and a bit of the 'ol jingle-jangle...we will conquer our set backs and seemingly endless missions and end up enjoying some monstrously great times on our brand new {almost;)} boats...

Well said GT! It will be worth it in the end.

Re: Bayliner Capri unintentional restoration project

Sorry I haven't updated this thread in a little while. I've been pretty busy with work but have been doing further water tests ad work on the boat. There hasn't been a great deal to report as have been having loads of engine problems and as soon as one thing gets fixed something else goes wrong, which has led to some pretty frustrating days trying to go boating.

The previous problems I mentioned have been fixed: the trailer has 2 new (second hand) axles and the outboard has a new (second hand) lower unit/gearbox which is working fine.

Here are some photos of the boat in the water and out at sea when she was actually working properly this weekend. Top speed so far 37 knots but that was on some pretty choppy water with a bit of swell coming in...before she broke down again!

As you can see I bought a second auxiliary outboard for when the main one breaks down; I found out that drifting fast towards rocks/other boats in strong currents/winds with no other means of propulsion is not fun!

Current engine problem we think is caused by a faulty choke solenoid/enrichment valve. It works beautifully sometimes and then seems to get clogged down or stall as not enough or too much fuel is sent to the engine depending on what the stupid valve thing is doing. Not sure how to fix this yet but at least I think we know what the main problem is. If anyone has any ideas or experience with this problem I would love to hear them!

When she is working properly and completely finished I'll take a video of the inside of the boat and as she's motoring!

Is it an electric type choke solenoid?
