My boat had a merc 470 package.

Now It has AQ131d/SP package.

The installer did a very good job on the wiring the VP to the old Glasply dash.

Here's were I'm scratching my head. The Tilt Trim Gear assembly is shot. Motor seams OK

So i look at ebay to see what one is going for.

The used TT assemblies have these Black Boxes on Top of them blank box.jpg

I dont have that BB. Do I need it? whats it for?

Re: Black Box

Post a picture of your trim/tilt unit.
The one you have pictured is a an electro mechanical lift found on 270 & 280 drives. No tilt involved.

You should have something like this for your SP

Re: Black Box

My Pics are failing. I dont know how to resize my photos.

Anyway

I do not have what you have Hydraulic style like you show posted.

I guess I have what you call the electro mechanical lift. Just like the ebay pic without the BB.

The Installer Used a ON/OFF/ON rocker switch powered from a bus bolt on dash. Out of the switch are TWO wires that go strait to the motor. No BB

Then you don't have a 290, the lift ended with the 280 drives.

The black box has the relays in it for up and down, you won't pull the amperage needed going through the switch to raise the drive.

User-name,
You wouldn't happen to have any sort of Microsoft office version on your PC?
Allot of the MS offices come with Microsoft Office Picture Manager which features several functions including re-sizing pictures.

The Icon would look like this;
MS picture.JPG

If you don't see it, but have MS office, open your programs, and go to the Microsoft Office folder. You may find it in there.

Does your transom shield look like the top or bottom picture?

Re: Black Box

You just posted the thumbnails, not the actual pictures. They don't get any bigger. But those are good enough for what I was trying to find out.

What you have is a bunch of different parts stuck together. The upper gear box is an SP-A, but that's all. The intermediate section is a 280 or 275, and so is the transom shield.

You need the black box and wiring for a 280 to make it work right.

You sure aren't kidding (What you have is a bunch of different parts stuck together.)

Got the relay box last night.

Looks like a easy hook up.
Battery
Motor
3 way Wire ===== Hook up to my existing switch
relay up
relay down
Idiot light----- I'll void that.
