Thanks for the question about who can and who can't post "for sale" messages on the Forums. As others of you have stated, this is a business for us at iboats.com so we need to make a buck to stay open and stay live online. That takes money...our money...and since we are a family business, not a conglomerate with billions of other peoples' money to spend, we do use our Forums from time to time to help generate sales while restricting its use by others who want to do the same...but don't help us with the costs.
We make money by having people list their used boats for sale on our site in our Used Boats Classifieds, for a very modest fee per month. We also make money when people buy products on iboats.com...boat parts and accessories...at the great prices we offer, and we also make money when companies advertise on iboats.
For these reasons we will continue to prohibit other people from using our Forums for their own financial gain, while at the same time we will, from time to time, offer specials and great deals to our Forum Members. No Forum Member has to take advantage of these great deals or pay us a dime in order to remain active on iboats. We twist no arms.
On the other hand, I do have to smile if someone takes offense at our telling them that they can save over 90% off on a brand new, high quality boat cover. The sale we started today listed many hundreds of brand new boat covers for sall at from $39.95 to $79.95...and we paid the shipping! That's right, FREE SHIPPING. Guess what sold out in the 1st hour? The new covers that retailed for over $1,200 each that you could get...while supplies lasted...for just $79.95!!! By the way, there still are some other great deals available.
If you would rather that we do not use our Forums to inform our Forum members and visitors about such unheard-of deals, then let me know. In the meantime, I'll keep you informed when we get the next almost-too-good-to-be-true screaming deal that you can choose to take advantage of or not.
