Re: Boat Cover: Waterproof and Highway Travel?

Thanks for all the advice and recomendations. Okay, fabricating a custom cover may be beyond my capabilities (and patience). Leaning towards Sharskin 600 denier. $230 on this site. Interestingly, my 1985 Chris-Craft boat is listed. Wonder how accurate the match will be?

Not sure, but I'm guessing it won't be an exact fit (typically, they fall in a range and style and say they fit?) ex: 17' bowrider, I/O with windshield, etc..Look on other sites for model number see if you can compare? Here's one to compare. (LINK) They list available for the 83-85 Scorpion 168/169. I'm not advocating purchasing here (looks to be more) just comparing models. The Scorpion was a fairly popular model, so odds might be better...give 'em a call?

Another vote for the Cabela's Trail Tuff cover. It used to be a great "bang for the buck", but I have not checked prices in awhile.

It is not a perfect solution.

  • The rope that surrounds the outer edge is garbage. I would immediately replace it with a decent braided nylon rope.
  • Because it is a somewhat generic fit, it does billow in the wind quite a bit. I made up a support frame for it to keep rain water from puddling when parked. (Yes, it held rain water for several days even when it was 4 years old.) I made a point of brushing excess snow off.
  • It does come with a 5 or 6 year warranty which helped because the thread and the cross tape supports rotted in the sun after a couple of years. No problem with a warranty replacement.

See if that same model number fits different brands of boats and you will have your answer.

I love my custom covers and they have been well worth the money. The dealer introduced me to a race car/boat cover guy here locally. He comes out does all the measurements, sews the cover, and then brings it over. I've had him make a snap-on and full tie-down cover. Both hold up great and the full tie-down is great for towing.

Your link is busted but I get your drift!

All the boat canvas guys are VERY expensive! At least here they are...

Appears they don't offer that cover for my boat any longer. About the same price as iBoats for Sharkskin 600. Looks like the one I'm trying to replace...

Link doesn't work on my smartphone, I'll try later at home on my computer. Thanks.
That's because the link is blocked because iBoats sells boat covers.

No one has mention the affect of covers on gas milage.
Any experience as if any fuel advantages on using a cover?
