amazing work. I'd love working on and then being able to use a sweet vessel like that except with my budget I'd get like 1-2 trips a year lol.

And even the might LeSabre might not like towing that

Yeah, I know what you mean. There is a marina near where I am going to keep it that sells its fuel at street prices, so that should help.
Thanks for the compliments, and I would probably need a bigger vehicle than a LeSabre.

I figure that I'll do some shakedown cruises, than after I feel that everything is working right I am going to take a trip to Cedar Point and stay for the weekend.

I agree, missing out on the like, $1/gal markup will definitely make a difference.

I've been wanting to make a Cedar Point 2-3 day weekend trip myself

I've never been there by boat but I hear its great. The marinas sound nice and they also have pools with swim-up bars.
Sounds good to me!

Thanks, the project is moving along nicely, I have pretty much finished the cabin and have been working on making curtains for the windows. I have to still take some pics of the finished cabin to post. Will post them in the next few days.

Re: Boat I bought to restore

Okay, well I have been making progress, slowly but surely and this boat will be in the water come April! I just have some details left to do and some waxing on the hull.

I have been working on the horns for the boat and they have come out a lot nicer than I was expecting. I have a set of air horns which were on my grandfather's 1940s GarWood race boat which he raced on the Detroit River. These horns have been in my family since then and have just sat in the rafters of our garage since he died in the early 1980s. They are made by Buell Trombone of Chicago, IL and are 3 feet long and are loud as heck!

Well, I got interrupted. Here are some pics of the horns.

Big solenoid for plenty of air!

I got a high volume air compressor with a 3 gallon tank for the horns, and I am going to put in a connection so I can fill beach balls and such

The curtains are almost done as well. no pics of those yet though.

Hey robthompson66,
Those horns are beautiful. They will make another great add to the boat. I love the history behind them too. That is great.
Very nice indeed.

Ditto on the horns!

I scored some freebie dually horns (much smaller than yours) miney ARE NOT loud....new junk...nuthin like the old school stuff..:-(

the good ol days of Detroit.(river races and such, Belle Isle etc)...such a shame that town is falling apart....so much potential!

Hey Rob if you end up running up the motors once it warms up a bit, can you video it mebbe? post it to youtube? love to hear them twins roar! oh and the horns honking would be way cool too! Im sure many would love to hear/see it!

I bought one of these spy gum cams, dang thing works AWSOME..we put em on our model airplanes and take video...can use em for anything, they take decent still shots too...I got mine for $1 plus $9 shipping so ($10) total really neato little video camera (no screen, uses micro SD card)

Keepin' it in the marina...Well that's Great Lakes boating at its finest!

Pfft. Great lakes boating at its finest is heading so far north you don't run into any other boats, anchoring off shore of a little gravel beach on a tiny island or peninsula, and grilling lunch while hunting agates.

Then you head back home battling 6-8 foot waves because the wind shifted :)

Re: Boat I bought to restore

Thanks everybody, yeah, when I get the boat in the water and all dialed in I will definately take some video.
and yes, Detroit is a mess, hopefully things will turn around sometime in my lifetime, but I guess only time will tell.

And as for Great Lakes boating, I agree, I go out and as far as I can often, but there are a lot of people that never leave the marina. It's sad.
I have a 16 footer and take it out a lot on the river but I pass by so many nice boats that never leave. Maybe they go out during the day when I'm working:)

its be better for the boats of they rented em out and stretched their legs more often (with a pilot of the owners choice as skipper)

Re: Boat I bought to restore

You got it, it still shocks me to see how many boats that are left uncovered throughout the winter here. We just got 7-10 inches of snow last week and I went down to the marina to see some friends ice fishing and there are still plenty of boats uncovered under snow. If you guys are looking for projects southeast Michigan is the place to find them!

Thanks!, Glad to hear that you are back to work on the Ray and hope your back is feeling better after the surgery.
The boat you've got will be great when finished.
Good luck with it

Rob
