Boat Position on Bunk Trailer

I have a Lund 1700 & Zieman single axle trailer. This is a simple setup, two bunk runners under the boat and a near-vertical positioning strut on each side near the back of the trailer.

Here's my question: should the bow of the boat be pulled tight to the front v-roller - or, should there be space between the bow and the v-roller when towing?

I've heard some say that, when trailering, there should be a couple of inches between the boat and the roller. But, I've moved the boat forward and have tried to position the boat tight to the roller. By having the bow tight to the roller, it seems to minimize flexing in the trailer and bouncing in the boat.

What's the correct position for the boat?

Thanks

Always tight to the stop. Don't forget the extra bow safety chain and transom tie downs.

Tight to the stop, but when you park it, loosen them, and push it away from the stop if you want. No need to have tight straps on a parked boat - just puts undue stress on it.

So you put your strap under the roller then winch it?
I ask because when i bought my boat it was on with the eye above the roller and i was told it was wrong.
Well now i changed it and it is under the roller but now there is not enough room for the strap hook and safety chain?

You need to raise the roller enough so that it can hook up correctly. Even if the roller is a few inches above the bow eye, it ain't a problem. 1 way to do this, is to mount the winch on the back side of the post, rather than on top. Then, then stop mount can go above.

What would be the reason for having the strap below the bow stop? My spider senses tell me it's to minimize the chance of the boat rolling up and over the bow stop in the event of a sudden impact while towing, but I could be wrong. Anything I'm missing?

You got it,

That is exactly the reason for the strap to be below stop. In a sudden stop or impact you want the bow eye to hit the bow stop to prevent it from rolling over the bow stop and into your towing vehicle.

Edit: Sorry Guys, just noticed the date, my bad
