Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Sorry I missed you! We almost made a quick run down there to say hi and see if you were still there. But everyone else was ready to head back in for supper.

Well the good news is that I finally have a evening at home to put the fixed mount VHF in!!! By the time tuesday night is over, it will be installed and hopefully ready for Labor day!

Maybe next time I won't miss you! Gald that you guys had a great time!

Was Arks out at all?

Do it! You won't regret it! Come on down and enjoy the weekend! Should be lots of boats out and so far the weather is looking good! I am hoping to be down Sunday evening and Monday!

I think I'm going to go on Monday because my buddy's brother is going down with his Formula. He told me to launch at the naughty goose? He was going to have me launch at the marina where his brother goes but he said my boat might be too loud.

What marina does you buddy's brother use? Can you exhaust the the prop or not?

The one at Nauti Goose will be fine as Skargo said. Loud performance boats coming out of there all day long. Very popular spot for them as you will see if you use it. Also a good restaurant if you are looking for somewhere to eat.

Yep, we eat there a lot. Great crab cakes!

I think my buddies brother goes to Tide Water Marina.

My boat is pretty much stock but it has the thru hull exhaust and it sounds a little throaty. I'll be down there one way or another.

There are plenty thru hulls that launch at Tidewater, and Tydings. Both in Havre de Grace. You'll be fine wherever. These marinas are 12 miles or so from the Nauti-Goose. Anchor is in North East, and right next to the Goose.

Have fun and enjoy the races. Wish we could make it down for them!

Just found out that I am off on Monday so I think that we will be down Sunday night to Monday night. Try to do a little watersking, crabbing, cruising etc. Thinking about a run to Chesapeake City or Georgetown. Probably grab a bite to eat somewhere too!

Scott - I see that Nauti Goose is under new ownership. Do you know anything about this? Have you eaten there recently? If so, how did the menu and food compare? Cheaper or more expensive? Just curious!

I won't.
But I'll be on the boat Saturday and Sunday at least.
Port tranny is acting up and -unless it's an easy fix -I'll be staying at the slip.
But I AM bringing my PWC to 'relieve some tension'......:D
Stop by if you're in the area.

Sorry to hear about the frustration!! Sounds like you have had a rough year with the boat. :( Hope you get everything worked out!

Wil you be down Monday at all? We might try to swing by your slip and say hi if you don't mind! Will you have the radio on if you are in the slip?

The food is great, the new owner is Joe. Not sure if it's more or less as we just started going there this year.
Give me a shout Monday, we might want to hook up for some food there maybe?

We are closing the shop from this afternoon til Thursday to swap out our spring/summer for fall/winter, we might stop by via car late this afternoon or early evening.

Not sure yet- I'm working out of town starting Tuesday and need to get some things squared away around the house.
If I'm there my radio will be on. I monitor 09 when in the slip.

Will you be on the water Monday? If so we may be able to hook up for a few minutes if nothing else. I really don't know what is happening yet as I just found out we can come down. Some of my family will be there Sunday night and Monday morning so we will see what happens!

I understand what you mean! Maybe we can swing down by you slip Sunday evening for a little depending on what happens. Have fun!

Sooooo... I guess I'm going to head down tomorrow morning at some point and stay over in the Holiday Inn Express North East. I guess I'm going to launch at the Nauti Goose because that seems to be the closest to there.

Is there any channels I have to watch for? I went to Havre de Grace 10 years ago fishing and I remember there was a channel we had to stay in because of the flats being real shallow.

You can go down to Turkey point, and bang a right, and go the long way, or try to go the back channel by Furnace bay. It took me a few trips but I use it every trip now.

The attached shows both ways(sort of). Look on your chart, you'll see where it stays deep. There's a shallow spot near the Perry Pt. bouy heading towards where they usually park the barges. Not sure what time we'll be out, but if we are, and you hail us (Twice as Nice) I'll show you the way through.

Here's the local chart(12274) in a zoomable format,
