Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Stan had his V-20!

Love this boat. I'm still cutting my teeth on the water as this is only my second season running it myself. I usually fish with a couple buddies but we decided to get the women out tomorrow as well. We'll probably be in the Bohemia tomorrow but would love to hook up with your group later in the summer. Oh wait, summer is dwindling down.

So it poured here this morning, on my poor open boat that is still hooked to my truck. Not sure if we'll go out today or not.

Here's a Lloyd's video from yesterday.

It's raining here in New Castle De, So I guess we'll wait untril next weekend to go out. We may go down to Elkview Shores in the middle of the week just to putter around. Play with my jacked up Golf Cart. I know the weather people are saying nice and clear for next Saturday. So we will see.

I bought 6 spray bottles of turttle wax spray that is used to clean Chrome and Alumn. wheels. I'm going to try it out on my toons and see if that will make them shine better. I'll take picture's of it before and after. Probly do it this Friday.

Great boating weekend. We started out Friday evening and took 7 boy scouts Troop 880 for a weekend of sailing and boating out to Hartmiller Island. Friday we loaded up all the gear. Tons of it on my friends 35 foot Bristal and motored out to Hartmiller arriving just after sun set. I drove to Rocky point and we launched my friends 18 foot searay and my Boston Whaler harpoon. She went unused for 2 years. The weekend was excellent. We sailed, we tubed, we swam,we fished. I felt like I was 12 years old again! I thought I would share some pictures.

The crew! Thanks again Ted for taking your boat out for the boys!

Saturday before the wind filled in. By late afternoon it was blowing 12-15mph.

Sunday morning it was blowing 25 mph. Right after this photo was taken it was all we could do to keep her upright. The main is reefed. Fun Time! best sailing I have had in 15 years!

No bad looking for 30 year old boat.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Continued from our Boyscout weekend. No weekend is complete without a few challenges. Ted dropped his motor in 6 1/2 feet of water off the back of his dink around midnight. He dove down brought it up and dried it out over night. By 9 am had it installed and running like a top again. He uses it to shuttle in and out from the island. He had the best sleeping as he slept on his Bristal 35 away from all the misqutos.

Here is his Bristal 35 that he found sunk in the mud for four years. He bought her from the owner for a song. Pumped her out cleaned her up and painted her. He is 25 and has a dam nice sail boat which he lives on. He is also the one that fixed and painted my red power boat. Here is his Bristal undersail out from the island.

Sunday sail home in perfect winds! Loaded up! No rain and a good time had by everyone! I will say the misquots on that island are deadly at night. I think I lost more blood there than the last time I was in the chair for red cross!

those bugs get into the galley of a boat as well. they love those cabin lights.

but mainly nats, no mosquitos. Even on the sand island, the flies would hurt when they bite, but no mozzies.

So your telling me that boat was sunk for 4 years?

was it beached near the sore, and partially sunk?
there is a boat in HDG like that, but it would be a ton of work to get running again.

probally 10 grand worth of work.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Awesome day at Lloyd's today, it was an all Wellcraft raft up. We'll be back bright and early tomorrow.

I can't say enough about good friends and good times! ;)

Couldn't of said it better myself. It was great to see you guys again, I am glad it worked out.

Stan, it was really nice to finally meet you and your family, finally! Hope that we can do this again before the summer is out.
We had an absolute blast as always. Good to meet you Brandon and hang out with Scott again. Hope I didn't offend anyone with my out of control drinking. haha
We ended up staying in Lloyd's until about 9:30 or so. More boats piled in right after dusk and the crew up on the beach lit up a HUGE bonfire. It got a little rowdy after dark...those people know how to have a good time.
We hung out so long that we were contemplating just staying overnight, but decided to head for home. One small error in planning was that I forgot which boat I had. The V-20 doesn't have a spotlight on it and the GPS I was using has no charting in it....so now I had to run from Lloyds back up the Northeast river to Anchor marina in the dark with little help from modern electronics.:(
Fortunately, I'm fairly familiar with this particular part of the bay and we made it back to the marina with no mishaps. Finally got home at 2:30 A.M. TIRED!!!!! Had to go can tomatoes at my mom's house sunday, too. I'm still dragging....

I believe it is a shipping becon that sends a signal to ships to keep them dead in the middle of the channel.

I could be wrong, but when view by approaching vessels in the evening, you would want to position your boat so that all the lights are lined up in a vertically. Doing so puts the vessel in the center of the channel.

Yup, range lights.
They're pretty cool to use at night BUT you gotta know where you are relative to them because if you just follow them blindly you can end up waaaay outta the channel they're marking.

Guys- If all goes well (and the boat starts) I'm planning to be at Cara Cove this Saturday morning to watch the go-fasts leave the Northeast River for the Poker Run.
Always fun to watch 'em blow by at 60+ MPH and I heard a rumor there will be at least 1 that'll do triple digits. First wave departs 10:20.

Look at all that expensive hardware.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_-MnVgO_aw

We saw a buch of those boats heading South two weeks ago Saturday from the cliffs across from turkey point. It took almost 45 minutes for all of them to pass by. We were in the Sassafras heading towards the mouth when some of them came back. what a sight.

That was the annual Hap Hazzard Fun Run. It was open to all boats. I wanted to go because they had the helicopter photographer there, I'd love an aerial shot!
