Bill, it was great to meet you and your friends at Lloyd's yesterday. If you read my post above, you'll see that if I hadn't had trouble, I wouldn't have been delayed and we wouldn't have met. It worked out great in the end.
The guys with the floating barbeque grill were amazing.

I'll be spending Saturday with Shane and "McKenna Renee" at his 'secret' cove with my 'ski. From the Elk Neck launch it's only a couple miles north.
Sunday I plan to be onboard "Winter Dream". Might venture out for a bit, but not for long because I gotta head to work by 4PM.

Hey Bill- Were you gassing up at Wawa routes 30 and 10 Friday about 5PM? I saw a boat just like yours!
Brandon- In for a raftup. Fairly flexible with a date but I'd prefer Saturday so overnighting could be considered.

Sunday, 7/17: Launched in DE City. Ran the canal. Hung out near entrance to Bohemia River. Lots of boaters there. Kids took a swim, we sunned with some tunes and headed home. Just a few hours today.

Went to flush engine in driveway (DE City is a brown water). .... although she was fine all day, right at 160* (I mean within a hair of 160 all day) without fail.... then... I get home and I use the good ol' muffs and my standard routine.... and she stops spitting out water after 10 seconds in the driveway. Quickly shut her down. Only the fourth outing on the impeller.


Seriously? Yes. WTF? Anyone? I could have sucked in some mud... but then everyone out of DE City would have the same issue. Or is there something else to look for.... ?

Phil,

Do you power load? I was just watching a guy power load his boat (at the de city ramp) and left it in gear for a few minutes while trying to arraign it properly on the trailer. It is currently around low tide here and the whole time while he was in gear mud was continuously churning up.

No power loading. Loading at that ramp is about as easy as it gets. I just dock, put two ropes on and my wife gets out and holds both. I get the trailer in and we just float it on. Guide-ons help greatly.

I am going to have to assume I got a little too much of the mud though. I guess it's just bad timing/luck around the ramp there. Down the little canal, I was on plane until the no-wake zone, then I puttered over to the ramp, but I think my down fall might have been racing my engine to clear it out after idle speed puttering. Maybe I shouldn't do that at DE City. It was probably 75% towards low tide.

I have an idea to throw out here. We want to see if anyone would be interested in helping, sponsoring, or even bringing a coverd dish out to sand island Saturday Sept. 5th for a pig roast in celebration of Labor Day. I own a BBQ catering business so the pig and pig roaster would be covered. We would just need to know that people would be interested in coming out, and being a part of such an epic event. Let me know your thoughts.

Have you ever lanched your boat in Chesapecke City south side. Cleaner water or at Stemmers Run.I use Stemmers run and I live in New Castle. Nice ramp paved parked area.Holds about 50 trucks.

Does anyone know how many miles it is from anchor marina on the northeast to the bohemia by water? Left the boat in Delaware from 4th of july trip. Going back down for the boat on the 29th of july. Was thinking of putting in at anchor marine then shooting over to spend the night on the bohemia. I usually launch from elk neck but pulling 9000 lbs up those curvey hills is no fun.

John- Looks to be about 12 miles by water (8 to Turkey Point, 4 to the Bohemia). I know what you mean about Turkey Point Road- I hauled my 23 footer down there regularly.

Saturday had a great time at Secret Cove (it's 'official' new name) with Shane and Co. Super nice spot but watch the current- especially when a freighter goes past in the ICW. It'll (quite literally) suck the water outta the cove, then jamb it back in there 5 minutes later!
The bottom is sandy with a sharp drop-off, but the beach is minimal at high tide. Boat wasn't aground!

To go from Anchor Marine to where we hung out above 213 is about 20 miles.

Thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure i had enough fuel in the boat yet. I roughly have 70 gallons left yet. So that should be more then enough fuel for the weekend. The old searay seems to get decent fuel consumption. According to me gps and fuel flow meter. i got just over 2 miles per gallon of fuel

i know the area of this "secret" but i am unsure of where you beached. Is it on the back side of the point? if not, would you be so kind to show a map with a dot showing where you beached. Any special route to get to the beach or is it wide open? This beach area would save several miles off my normal trip to the top of the bohemia. Thanks, Nick

I have to check those out. I wouldn't mind cleaner water and cutting out most of the canal run. Since DE city is 5 mins away and a dream ramp, I've gone there first. I will check those out. I'm fussy about my ramps.

What are the bugs like on Sand Island ? Mosquito's especially but also biting flies.
