Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

My fiance and I camped over on Sand Island a few weeks ago so we were on Sand Island from maybe 6pm to the next morning and I didn't get bit once. We had a citronella candle with us, but I don't think it did anything. I was just on Sand Island on Sunday and there were a lot of flies. I didn't get bit, but I wasn't there for long..

I have an idea to throw out here. We want to see if anyone would be interested in helping, sponsoring, or even bringing a coverd dish out to sand island Saturday Sept. 5th for a pig roast in celebration of Labor Day. I own a BBQ catering business so the pig and pig roaster would be covered. We would just need to know that people would be interested in coming out, and being a part of such an epic event. Let me know your thoughts.

FYI, there's a FaceBook page/event for this party at https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=207123109338669

Scott, if you're there, you're about 5 weeks early. Save me a good spot to anchor. :)

Rob, it was great having you out with us for the day... It's about time I returned the favor, eh? Send me the pics from the two weekends when you have chance...

This is where I have found the deepest water, though it isn't a "channel" by any means. Seems to be about 2-2.5 @ LMW.

The beach is right at the tip of the arrow, where there is about 8ft of water. I will most likely be out there again this weekend. Feel free to stop by and say hi....

Next time I launch it will be next week in the lower Chesapeake (Cape Charles) -- Big annual family vacation with multiple families. We'll be hauling the Scarab and our 14' Alumacraft down Route 13, and other family members will be taking two Waverunnes and one 24' Sea Swirl Striper.

Won't be in the Upper Chessie for a little while. Enjoy and be safe everyone! Hit the water, and try not to boil!

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

I think Tuesday was the best day of boating yet. Put in at Bay Boat Works in NE,( for $10 they have showers included in the ramp fee), and cruised to Llyods for the day. We anchored just west of the new cut in the peninsula on the outside, not a wave and very few wakes. Arks, this is similar to the flats as the bottom comes up quickly and you should be able to back in to wading level and still keep your props out of the sand. There is a nice beach and sandy bottom if you stay between the cut and the tall grass to the west. The tidal flow was alittle strong but with two anchors it was not much of a problem.

We are planning on it. My dad just got flown to University of MD's trauma unit, he has a torn aorta and needs emergency surgery, so of course this will dictate our plans.

Thanks, they actually put it off. They say the tear is small enough to maybe be treated with meds. They want to make sure he didn't have a mild heart attack too, in case they do do the surgery, they want him strong.
