I'm planning on barrier coating my hull with interprotect 2000E. I read they suggest to top coat it, for it being epoxy based. Not really looking for an antifouling... Just a good hard topcoat like VC Offshore. However I can only find colors like blue black brown etc. I just want a cream white so It matches the rest of the boat... Any suggestions?

Do you leave her in the water for extended periods of time, or is she Trailered all the time? Your Previous thread had good responses on this same topic. But...To answer your question, these guys make some of the best Hull paint you can buy and they make it in ANY color you can think of.

Yeah she sits in the fresh water for a few months of the year. That Supermarine stuff has awesome color selection! Thanks

VC offshore is an antifouling ..

After your 2000 application .. do you want do sand/prime/paint again ..?

Vivid white is what I would do .. but there are other epoxy pigmented surface coats you can go with.

However now your stuck with sanding the whole bottom down again to prep for another product ..

Sorry I was under the impression the VC offshore is a very hard top coat style paint. Too bad its only available in brown blue n black. I guess I'm willing to sand the bottom again for the top coat...AS long as I can get a real close match to the rest of the boat's gelcoat. Isn't 2000E considered a epoxy style primer? Planning on scuffing it and applying that Supermarine bottom paint.

Like YD says, Why don't you think you could do a good job using GEL??? It's a bit harder to apply but...In the end a much more durable finish. And I'm not even a Gelcoat advocate. YD's gunna love this!!!!!!:D

I thought epoxy is far better Than polyester gelcoat... Does it have to be sprayed for a whole bottom job?

Uhhmmm NO!! Gelcoat is much better just a different method of application. Your boat Hull is totally Gelcoated now. NOT painted. Can you post up some pics of the bottom of the hull?

Yes .. for a barrier coating epoxy is better than gelcoat.

I was not suggesting that you Re-coat with gel. Just keeping it gel :) .

If you were going to paint your bottom with IP2000 then I might suggest that you use Pettit Protect. Then use Vivid white bottom paint.

There are other alternatives with tinted Epoxy coatings out there that you might want to research.

Re: Bottom Paint in Cream Color

The hull has many blisters and a few hairline cracks in the old gelcoat. My plan was to strip the old gelcoat off clean up the pitting and and barrier coat the hull. Ie two layers of epoxy resin on the laminate then IP 2000E then a top coat paint to match the topside gelcoat. in order to protect the epoxy from UV. If Gelcoating is easier/better onto the laminate then I'd like to know I've never worked with the stuff...

Looked into Pettit. The recommend only 3 coats as opposed to IP2000 5 coats. Which is nice... have you used the stuff? Pretty good?

Epoxy Paint is not a Barrier coating .. Epoxy Barrier Coats are just that .. Barrier coats. Paint is paint .. not the same.

Gelcoat is not considered a 'barrier coat'.

IP2000 is suggested at 10 mils Dry coating .. 4-5 coats gives you this after reducers flash off.

Pettit protect might give off less flash and therefore 3 coats will do ( although the finish might not perform like 2000 does without reduction and more coats ).

Yes I have used PP and it works just fine if you are precise about it :) .

Good thing about PP is that you can coat the Vivid right over it without anymore sanding ( If you keep it within the coating window ).
