Re: builder bashing

 YIKES! a composite construction boat thread is being overtaken by the Starcraft Cartel.... :D

Actually, they are just another arm of the illluminati....they get together on Thursdays wearing their black hooded robes chanting the praises of the founders of Starcraft and the superiority of riveted hulls over welded :p

LOL...isn't that the truth! Sometimes they even sacrifice a fiberglass boat during their ceremony.

Well, there is the Starcraft Club, and another member trying to get a Tri-Hull Club together...

Maybe, we need to start a Center Console Club, then maybe we will gain enough members to keep the StarCraft Club at Bay...

As I recall, your anti-Starcraft thread digressed into a discussion about different Starcraft models and everyone's desire to own one :)

We will simply fill your Center Console Club with a bunch of 21 foot Starcraft Mariners and many others that converterd their SC's to CC as well...

Re: builder bashing

Some things were never built to last though... Semi rant...

I've got a 1950's Waring Blender that was given to me by my wife's grandparents 20 years ago. That thing can vaporize rocks if I needed to as it was built to last. The glass container must weight 10 pounds and the motor could power a Hyundai

The blender that a friend just picked up for $150 that is all nice and shiney is junk in comparison. I can smell the motor cooking trying to blend 2 cups of ice...

Did I mention I like the old Starcraft's...

Well just melt the ice first , doh!

Re: builder bashing

Like in other situations, follow the money, D/P makes money off selling his services, books and other related items. I'm not saying everything he says is wrong, but if I remember correctly, in the article he admits he's never seen a boat being built, doesn't know the name of the products involved and doesn't know how those products are supposed to be used. When used correctly, most of the things he didn't recognize can work well and the products and methods he liked can also fail when used incorrectly.

My next door neighbor has a 28' larson, its got a balsa cored hull.
Now the core is wet.
It was just a bad idea ...but it can be fixed.
End grain balsa coring works great in aviation, not a great idea in a boat.

It is true...

I sacraficed a fiberglass boat to the weed gods 2 weeks ago...
I wanted the trailer (or shall I say soul) from the ole boat...

That while the Starcraft is making it's way into the nice warm dry shop for the winter for a nice little rebuild...

Re: builder bashing

There is actually an 18ft starcraft tinny with a merc I/O 4cyl for $350 in my area and I have no free $$$ for boats :( There is also a nice 18ft for $650, but it has stringer in it. Even though I am in the middle of a restore this could wait for a year or two...but there will always be another deal this time of year.
