Bush commutes jail time

President Bush commuted the sentence of former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby on Monday, sparing him from a 2?-year prison term that Bush said was excessive.
Bush’s move came hours after a federal appeals panel ruled Libby could not delay his prison term in the CIA leak case. That meant Libby was likely to have to report to prison soon and put new pressure on the president, who had been sidestepping calls by Libby’s allies to pardon the former chief of staff to Vice President **** Cheney.
“I respect the jury’s verdict,” Bush said in a statement. “But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby’s sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison.”

It's about time!! I know for a fact GWB has been getting some very angry mail from some very angry people, and that was when the slilly sentance was handed-down.
Why did it take him so long? Ill bet Libby was having chest pains!

Well, I'll chime in.

Sounds good to me, solves a lot of problems.
The conviction still stands, as does the $250,000 fine.

A) He will recieve a full pardon in 18 months or so.

B) It isn't like he jammed classified documents down his shorts.

C) There was no underlying crime, (taking a page out of the liberal handbook)

D) A politically motivated conviction, overturned by politics, BFD.

E) No evidence against him other than his own notes. So were his notes wrong or was his testimony. Nobody has proven that yet.

F) The man who was known to the special prosecutor is serving what sentence?

If he did lie, he deserves some jail time. 2.5yrs? Not hardly. A close study of the "facts" will show no direct evidence other than his own notes are what was used to convict him. Personally, I think he should do some time, and pay a fine, and keep his sorry butt out of government for life. But that just isn't likely.

If it was my choice I would have pardoned Scooter Libby and Bill Clinton with the same pardon for the same crime simultaneously with identical commutations. And boy would there be screaming and hollering.

I figure Haliburton will give him a $250K signing bonus, so that's a wash too. But as a convicted felon, he can't posess firearms. He might want to decline any hunting trips with Dicky. Can't shoot back.

Even that was debatable. It was the jury that decided that he lied when he did no more than Hillary Clinton in saying that he did not remember.

Why wasn't Hillary in line for a pardon from der slickster?

ah but, the commutation of sentence does not stop his conviction appeal. If he prevails in the appeal, that all evaporates. That is why GW did not give him a full pardon. On one hand GW respects the jury's decision while allowing the process to play itself out. In the mean while, Libby does not sit in the slammer.

I fully expect Bush to grant him a full pardon a day or two before he leaves office... You know, like Clinton did that lump sum pardon of FALN (the terrorist group)?

I can smell that load of Shiite all the way up here....
Cheney, 'errrr Bush.... waited until the last possible moment to pardon Skater so as to not waste any credibility......
If he could have, he would have waited until 1/19/2008....
It just shows how corrupt this admin. truly is......
If Scooty would have had to do any time, he would have sung like a canary & brought W, Cheney & Co. down......
