Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Update for you guys from the Head waters, Colorado Snowpack remains at 135% of normal average but has increased over the last month, growing concerns of flooding when the snowpack does start to melt. While April is one of Colorado's snowiest months snowpack rarely increases due to warmer temps.

So it looks good for down river, Powell and Mead should start rising soon and not because of equalizing the two reservoirs, we have alot of water heading your way!!

Now wait a darn minute here...

The tree-huggers/eco-freaks said Mead was going to be a dried up dust bowl by 2020. How the heck is it going to dry up if we start getting record setting snow packs up in the rockies?:rolleyes::D

Mead now expected to go up 30' in the next 9 months - up 50% over what was previously forecast...let the good times roll!

That would be nice...also if the water eventually got high enough to go through the narrows up there into what I used to call 'lost lake'

We just nick-named this place Lost Lake. It's up the Overton Arm, past Overton Marina through the other little narrows going up the Virgin River. When the water ele. was up, it would open up into a little 'lake' where it would typically be void of other boats, so no wakes, and you could ski on glass, even when there was a little wind.

It would be nice to be able to go in all those places that we haven't been in since the water level has been down for so long.

The broken prop story sounded like fun :D

had a friend get on at callvil fueling house boats. that was a couple of summers ago.

he got around $10 an hour but said the the tips were great.

you guys should have some water to play on this summer. it's been like living in one of those snow globes up here on the yampa. someone seems to shake it every other day. we are looking at floods when it warms and the green is as good or better.

Lost Lake

I thought you were talking about Grand Wash Bay up in the Gregg basin when you first posted that, I'd love to bet back there as it's an isolated "lake" right now.

I've been back in "lost lake" a couple times when the lake was full. You're right about it being glass when the main lake is snotty. Last time I tried to get up there, 5-6 years ago, I was idling up the channel in chocolate milk and decided to head back before my prop found something...

I was up in the Overton Arm about a month ago and it was really murky in the north end, lots of debris in the water too. I checked the prop when we got home and it had a new ding, little one, lots of twigs and junk floating around.

Hey Jax, good to see you drop in again.

He said the last time the West saw such unusual prolonged cold weather with steady rain and snow was in 1983 when massive flooding across the region caused substantial damage.

1983... When they had to open the spill gates at Hoover dam because the lake was getting too full.

Maybe the lake will fill right back up in 1 year :D  Not really, but I bet we get a good share of the lake back.

The lake has been this low two times before but has always filled back up within 2 to 4 yrs.So here we go if calville bay got washed out just imagine whats gonna happen on the mighty colorado. Many a times ive fished in the back of coves on mead and seen the big wash areas but never have i seen water there and always wondered how they formed, but after calville washout i understand how mother nature works.Allways keep a sharp knife when anchoring in these spots for the night for you wont have enough time to untie the anchor just cut and run for life if it hits.
