Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Finally decided it was time to upgrade my stereo receiver. Just ordered the Clarion M303, Pandora, iPod, SiriusXM and what I'm really going to like is Bluetooth. Also ordered the MF1 wireless remote, supposed to be watertight and float, we'll see. It works on RF so I don't need line of sight for it to work, as oppose to other wireless remotes that use IR, again, we'll see. Should be here next week and installed for weekend testing.

That looks like a nice receiver. I like Pandora but we can't get consistent internet in Temple Basin so we mostly listen to an ipod or Surius/XM. I just upgraded the stereo in my Bronco for off road. I got a marine system for the waterproof/dustproof factor, and got one without a CD player since I've now officially downloaded my entire CD collection from over 25 years. The unit is much smaller and lighter and the CD's skip too much anyway. The cool factor I liked about it is you can insert an SD card behind the removable faceplate, and with an SD card up to 64mb you can store a LOT of songs/albums. The only problem is you can't choose the order, or randomize the playing with the card.

12v, this model just happen to a have a CD player, which I don't use anyways. Got it for iPod, Bluetooth and the new wired remotes fit existing holes at the helm and transom. That's if I want to put those in but at $200 each remote I don't think I will.

Receiver I have now doesn't charge iPod. And if I pick a song on the iPod before I plug it in to the receiver it will go to the beginning of the playlist and don't shuffle the songs. It was time for the upgrade

First and foremost, I am no expert or even nearly as experienced as most of the members here, BUT, IMO you should repalace it yourself. After a long time spent reading and researching this forum, as well as some you tube videos, I discovered it is such a simple task, its not even worth paying to have it done. But then again I get satisfaction out of doing things myself that I've never done or have experience in doing. I actually rplaced my entire steering system in a smaller fishing boat I have thanks to this forum and YouTube. The only thing I didnt have to deal with was the side pannels along the sides of the boat, because again its a fishing boat. Look into it, you may find its a lot easier than it looks. Just measure, order, tie together feed/fish through and replace...

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Guess who's back?! Lol. Little update, as of the last time I posted the search for a boat got put on the back burner for the sake of getting a house instead. That was just over a year ago. Well we got our house and I've been waiting (not so patiently at times) for my opportunity to get a boat. Well the opportunity finally showed its little head and we bought a Baja Islander 180 last Saturday. Its a 97 with only 320 hours on it. Came with the 350 and Alpha 1, SS prop, two biminis etc. As is when buying something used there's some wrenching to be done, thankfully the boat it in tip top shape...the trailer on the other hand is a different matter. The previous owner replaced the ugly single axle galvanized trailer with a painted dual axle unit. Sadly the wiring was all wonky so I had to rip it all out and replace every wire and every light from the connector up front to the tail lights. While under the trailer I noticed the keel bunks don't even make contact with the bottom of the boat. Has like 2-3 inches of air between the bunks and the boat. The whole thing is resting on the chine bunks. Sadly the bunk brackets are welded on so looks like my next project is to buy some adjustable brackets then cut and replace the ones on there now.

Then again, does anyone know of a good trailer repair shop? I'd rather not screw that job up.

Nope, I do all my own work. I would avoid any place along the I-15. I usually buy parts from Marine Center on Boulder Hwy, they seem like a good business, no experience with their service though.....

does anyone know of a good trailer repair shop?

None that I know of. I've been to a few and don't know that I would recommend them, just from my experience of buying parts. Dedending on what needs to be done, it might be easiest to buy adjustable brackets and bolt on a couple new bunks. Just make sure the boat is sitting square and even on the trailer before adding the new bunks. Since this is a mis-match boat and trailer, post up a couple of pics (new thread) so everyone can give their input on the trailer setup, bunk placement, how boat sits on trailer.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

I myself just bought a whole bunch of parts for my trailer, axle, leaf springs, hangers, wheels etc. before doing so I did some looking around, and a lot of the trailer shops I called and went to ALL RECOMMENDED a place called trailer tech. Its on Russel and valley view. But that place doesnt do work on trailers, they only sell parts, but they are a great helpful bunch of guys. If you go there, tell them "motorboater" they Guy with the axleless trailer sent you.. Then after you have your parts the a good Guy down the road from there that does great work, the name of the shop is A-1 trailer & truck accessories. And it is litterally just a few blocks north of Trailer tech.

Congrats on the boat! Hope to see you out there once you get the trailer issues figured out.

kemer1 im glad to see that you have your boat,i bet your so excited bro.A baja is worth the wait alone if you ask me.Is it a cuddy or a open i must know?and the trailer sounds kinda crazy with all that air between bunks and hull, maybe thicker wood can fix that bust out the 4x4 that might fill the gap.Bring it on over and lets check it out, im off nellis and washington.
