Re: Calling All New Yorkers!!!! Jamaica Bay Sib Fest???

Need to see where the water is coming from but if memory serves me correctly you were actually getting a little spray over the sides of your boat while underway. Right about at the middle of the boat. We'll definitely figure it out. I intend to pay a little more attention to the little things this year and hopefully make boating easier and more fun.

Weimed, I was sitting under the bimini (in my livingroom) yesterday. Was pretty cool. Definitely block the sun and rain but it is fairly large assembled and doesnt really fold into a small package. Will figure it out though. Will be nice on the crazy hot days. My AL floor is supposed to ship beginning of February, so I am looking forward to that as well. On the bad days in the office, I daydream (for the allotted 2 min!) about the great trips I hope to have this upcoming season! Lol.

I am thinking due to the long shaft ob my boat stays up longer then usual and takes in water. I am hoping raising the ob by 3-4 inches should fix the problem and give me more thrust. I am also looking for a way to remount my anchor reel and rid the zip ties. My goal is still to get setup time 15 min max and 20 min disassemble. We will see this year with more experience. Hmm I wonder how a good water gun with couple gallons of water work to clean. 2 gallons total one gallon with soap water and second gallon of rinse water.

Hey Al, funny enough I was in a boat store and everything they sold was evinrude. Guy seemed very rude. The receipt he gave me still had a carbon copy.

Weimed, bet you impressed the old guy with your superior knowledge of outboard motors, eh, or perhaps you are a greenhorn. Did you teach him anything about working on motors?

If he earned the privilege of wearing that cap, you should have showed him proper respect.

I respect his support for america but he has a thing or two to learn about Japanese engines. I did not have heart to tell him his 9.9 rude on display is made by tohatsu

Re: Calling All New Yorkers!!!! Jamaica Bay Sib Fest???

Let us see, a fellow has his motor mounted and running, but it does not move forward in the water. Even though it is a direct drive motor, he is told to check the compression of the power head? Then a 2 HP has F-N-R gears? Really !! And other examples of someone with little knowledge of outboards.

Then because someone either does not know or doesn't admit which factory manufactured a certain motor, he supposedly gets his chops busted and a brag is made on an open website. The greenhorn making the statement knows so much less about outboards that it is comical and is probably the laughing stock at the dealership.

So the dealer does not know about Japanese engines? What do you want to bet that he could identify a problem, take the unit down, and make repairs with no problem while the poster ran to the web and asked others what to do?

This does go to prove that a little knowledge is dangerous, particularly in the hands of someone who would be rude to others. Bad manners are not respected by many on this site. If you wanted to make the brag of how superior you were to the dealer to a friend, it would have been best to use a pm. You just marked yourself as someone not worth the bother to try to help if you have motor problems.

#1 I don't know alot about marine engines. #2 from force all the way down to mercury and lehr first suggestion to anyone is check compression. #3 as a former owner of a Suzuki gsxr 600 (Japanese) and an American piece of crap ford and all my Nissan vehicles right now. American vehicles are junk In my opinions. The transmission goes at 30k. #4 if you do not like what I write don't read our thread

HEY! Those videos made me real nostalgic for Jamaica Bay--and Randazzo's in Sheepshead Bay!

I didn't catch it in the videos, but where did you guys finally launch from? Plum Beach?

Plum beach still closed. I am still wondering how hard it would be dragging our boats through the beach. We always launch from floyd bennet field. During the strike when state parks were closed we found a small little park near cross bay blvd. It was a touch launch, couple things went wrong but overall i would say it was worth going out. That was my seaon closer :(. I am hoping it gets warn quick. I hope we can get our first trip out in march to catch the stripers and flukes coming in

Where do you mean when you say dragging the boats through the beach?

Park at Canarsie Pier, and then shlep the stuff from there? I totally forgot the set-up, the lay of the land there.

You used to be able to drive to the rear of Seaview Park, right to the bridge that's between Rockaway Parkway and Flatbush Avenue. This is a spot right near that Sebago Canoe Club I told you about way back when.

Also check out driving down East 80th Street, near Paredegat 1 Street, Paerdegat 2, etc., near that Sebago. Unless it's TOTALLY fenced off these days, that little inlet...if you can call it that...ends at Flatlands Avenue, where there is/used to be a sewage treatment plant. There might be real EASY access to the water from there, and Jamaica Bay is a quick turn to the left!

Check out a satellite map for the Sebago Canoe Club. That will give you an idea.

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying boating in my hometown Canarsie!

Here they call it Canarsie Park, but it was always called Seaview Park. Note where the park hits the water.

That Purple Marker is Paerdegat 1, with each successive street going up in number. See how close this is to Canarsie Pier and Jamaica Bay.

Re: Calling All New Yorkers!!!! Jamaica Bay Sib Fest???

Hey Weimed, before someone jumps on you for posting the wrong season openers... Lol, March is pretty much just a flounder fishery, and not much of one, at that. Usually/ historically opens around St. Patrick's day. Stripers may be around in the bay by late March (though a little less likely this year due to weather) but they are not likely to be legal targets any earlier than April 1st.. historically the 15th of April was the ticket. Fluke won't get there until May, if we are lucky.... but the occasional errant fluke shows up in late April. March is a 2 flounder limit trip... really more of a shake down cruise. Hope my post passes muster. I am not trying to pass it off as gospel.. only my experience and... need I say... opinion. Like a certain body orifice. We all have one... think being alive entitles us... lol.

If it seems I am taking potshots.. You are probably right. It gets my goat when I see someone attack another person for having a superiority complex... and then themselves go on to exhibit a "similar" aura. Most of what is posted on these boards is opinion or at best "facts" gleaned from experience... which is subject to interpretation and internalization. There are always more ways to arrive at the resolution of a problem than there are people trying to resolve it... just add more people... you'll see what I am getting at. In our zeal to share our "knowledge", show how far we have come from being true neophytes, or just to express an opinion.. we sometimes step less lightly than others would have us do... That's life.

Let's all try to play nice in THIS (as the OP for this thread) sandbox. As a personal friend of Weimed, I know he is not prone to self aggrandizing, though he may be strong of opinion. I know that he is expressing his opinion on the matter... but I thought that would be obvious for anyone who cared to look... and not just knee jerk a reaction. There are no absolutes... No all American Cars Suck, nor do all Foreign maker vehicles... This is also true for people. Let's all of us try to be mindful of that. At this point there are more things that bind us strangers (common interests) than separates us... Let's try to keep it that way :)

@IraRat... Randazzo's is still here but wouldn't see it from where we launch or where we usually boat. Weimed was spot on with the description of the place we launched in that it was at the end of a street, lol. I was just so happy we found an alternate place. Hadn't realized the 3 actual launch spots I know are all run by los federales! Including Canarsie!!! We should be back to our usual launch haunts this season and maybe expanding to more distant areas. There are 6 or 7 inflatable boaters that have expressed interest, so follow this thread... it could get interesting-ier!! lol.

But what street? He said Floyd Bennett, and I was curious.

I grew up right near the Paerdegats there, and that little basin is a joke--but at least it will get you out into the bay. And yeah--I know you weren't near Sheepshead Bay; I'm just homesick for it. (Food in South Florida sucks, and I used to go to Randazzo's weekly, even in the winter.)

Re: Calling All New Yorkers!!!! Jamaica Bay Sib Fest???

I gotcha;) Wasn't sure if you thought we were in the bay by the party boats.. from there you "could" see Randazzo.s though we are so low to the water. I know in one of the videos I pointed out Kings college and the entrance to Sheepshead Bay, So I figured you though maybe we went into Sheepshead proper. I could imagine being homesick. I get to visit and fish many places, but there is something about being "home"... As a young man I would ride the 6 train from nearly the Bronx, switch at BWAY Lafayette for the old D line.. it has since changed, to go all the way out to fish Sheepshead bay.. In the 70's and early 80's there were still some small wooden decked boats like the Parable and jet (he's still here)... we'd go out to the Coney Island flats and whoop on the fluke!!! Those were the days!!! lol

Sorry about the food down there :( but right about now i'd trade you for a couple of weeks just on weather alone! lol)

As for Floyd Bennet... we launch at the old sea plane ramp. We only went to the other place once but it wasn't in the Seaview area... on your map it would have been on the other side of canarsie pier... come out of the basin and make a right to get to canarsie. Can't remember the street but it was just past cross bay heading towards JFK
