I know in one of the videos I pointed out Kings college...

Unless they changed the name, it was Kingsborough College when I went there! (2-year college at the time.)

I went there right when it was renovated, in the late 70s, and it even had its own manicured beach!

Dummies like me went to Kingsborough, but who cares? It had that BEACH!

I later went to Brooklyn College--no beach, but a lot of bars.

kingsborough is the best! perfect place to go after high school. "We called in Harvard on the Bay" good thing is when your passing it on your boat you know you are 5 minutes from open water. Oh no more bars by Brooklyn college.

Sorry "slang" on my part. Came from a lazy generation where one word/ shortened college names were the rule. City, Poly, Kings. Old habits die hard. But you are correct in that I was referring to Kingsborough. It is still there and still called Kingsborough. Still has the beach in front... though i don't know who it belongs to, lol.

Hey new to this site, had a question thought you could answer. I have a 13ft sea eagle sib and a 10hp 2stroke mercury. I've only used it in upstate lakes. How would this boat handle Jamaica bay, launching at floyd Bennett ? Any info would help. Thanks. :)

My guess is you are running the SE sports runabout? If it is then you have 1000 denier which is a little bit thinner then the ones we use 1100 but you will be fine as long as you do not try to be a hero and go out in bad weather. I see guys running intex mariner 4's in the bay.

Thanks. From what I'm reading the standard zodiac models are 1100 decitex material which is equal to 1000 denier. I use to have a mariner 4, I can't believe anyone would take that on the bay. Another question if you don't mind. Are there restrictions on where you can go in the bay and are you allowed to get off on any of the small islands. Thanks again.

Don't forget to let me know when you guys head over to Jersey.
The Delaware Bay is nice also.
As is the top of the Chesapeake Bay the part closest to Delaware
I live in the middle of the Bay but with notice I will come join the fleet in Jersey.

Sorry i guess i got the decitex and denier confused with one another. Q2. You cannot get to close to the jfk airport or you will see all kinds of cops. You cannot step foot on any island on the middle because those are bird refuge islands. If you disregard and step foot on that land you will be either arrested for trespassing or given a fine that will out cost most inflatables. The good part is you can take your boat around to breezy point and dock at the beach there. By land you can only get there with a 4x4 suv and a permit. So very secluded and clean sand with fairly decent water. Ronald, we are coming. Please pm me or email me your availability and we can do something. We plan on going out this coming monday even though it will be chilly. If you want Ronald we can make it up to you and launch togather

Hey Denett... welcome to the club!!! Weimed is right with regards to the bay... you will be fine! The best part of having a club is that we get to practice that old adage... There IS safety in numbers. When you go out as a group, the chance for things to go catastrophically wrong decreases immensely. We were just discussing how we now feel safer (one should never feel SAFE.. as it dulls the wits... and that's when bad things happen). I know that if something should go wrong with my boat, I have a friend to either get me back with my gear, or in the worst case... get ME back!!! And that will always be my first concern. That... and a little bit of caution/ respect for the elements, should see us through just about everything. We won't launch in bad conditions (though we may not always wait for IDEAL conditions either, lol) and we will surely head back when they start to occur.

The short of it is to say you should be fine either way (solo or with the group) but you are very welcome to join our merry band!! As i've said before the exchange of ideas (mods, and such) is worth the price of admission alone... and in case you were wondering.. there is no admission price... :)

I put the Coast Guard regs in a separate thread so everybody can see the saltwater regulations

I think this time the call might be legitimate with a few folks reporting catches WITHIN the confines of the bay!

We have not used fish finder to check water temp but my guess would be around 50-52f. We wear waders with layers of clothes underneath. It's nice plus lots of people are starting to report fish in the bay

If by drysuits you are referring to survival gear or diving drysuits then the answer is no. Weimed and have been wearing waders to good effect.... it allows you to walk out into the water staying dry and warm. In the warmer months we go shorts/ bathing suits. In the cooler months I have warn my scuba wetsuit under the waders to very good effect and have enjoyed days where the air temp should have made the boating/ fishing something less than fun.

How far do you guys have to pull your boats?
You make me feel bad.
You all appear to be yards away from launch.
Today I was feet away from launch
