Pipe Fighting Advanced Lessons ---- this can be used in other applications. A thread file is not aggressive enough for my tastes and this triangular file is as old as I am; therefore, the rule for filing in one direction was ignored lol. The Garboard is tapered on the plug side only, brass nipple not tapered at all. Pic shows unfiled end barely hanging on by a thread
http://

The filing process consists of 30 back and forth strokes over one third of the nipple before turning - made three complete revolutions for 90 strokes to deepen the thread grooves. Then, 20 forward only strokes at 45* to nipple to knock down the ridges. And then, 20 more in the ridges to remove burrs etc

was only trying to gain a couple threads and did. To go much further would keep the plug from bottoming out; additionally, the Garboard is tapered the other way and would only create a gap between Garboard and nipple.
Hope this helps somebody because it took longer for me to post this than to do it

I've done something similar to this using a hacksaw blade and then touching up with a file. Looks like you did a fine job!!!

I'd use a pipe threader and run it in a little further or tighten the dies a little extra.

Your method is what I use when on the road and need to repair some threads. Been there and done that after having a motorcycle trailer fall off and hang on the chains on the middle fork of the Snoqualmie. The lock washer broke on the ball and the bolt came out. Drove back up the road a mile and found the bolt.

You need to rotate the pipe while filing in order to keep it somewhat round. :)

StarTed hey buddy !!, how ya been? notice how I worded that post, "Pipe Fighting" "Advanced Lessons"; been pipe fitting since 1980 and mostly on the road traveling to work out of state.
30 strokes before turning is what I am comfortable with after all these years and knowing my hand and eyes. A pipe threader would be great if I possessed such an animal. But also the fastest way to ruin a nipple if everything doesn't go just so.....

Actually, this is closer to steam- fitting, but anybody can do this with a little patience and watching what they do.... (took me way less than ten minutes for this and can take a half hour for me to post a pic and description!! :facepalm:  )

Thought I'd stir the pot jrt.

I know what you mean by ruining a thread with a threader. It needs to be sharp and no chips stuck inside when backing out.

The big stuff is easy. Try doing that on a watch screw. It can be done but takes patience, steadiness, a loupe and something to hold it.

I'm no expert with this king of threading being a jack?-of-all ??????.

Anyhow, you're moving along and maybe faster than I am. We'll see who gets done first.

:rofl::llama::deadhorse: or we'll be :target:

it's all good............ except for me, anyone that moves slower is already in the ground  Almost a week later and still sluggish from that little road trip (1500+ miles in two days in 30 hours with 3 or 4hrs rest) - used to run harder than that to go work 7/12's somewhere. In this case, it wasn't the driving, but the timing of everything.
And I can't even make it as a "Jack" of anything  maybe a tom or steve or john? lol

I can't remember where I laid my razor knife eight minutes ago, but can remember my conversation with a foreman eight years ago  He said we couldn't get gas and other welding supplies for a few days because of the snow; that we'd have to stick weld stainless flanges until then and to be sure to clean off all spatter.
I said if we soot around the flanges with acetylene, spatter wouldn't stick.
sarcastically he asks "how long you been an apprentice?"
Smiling I say 32 years. I did mine that way it wasn't long before most all the other welders were

But this is so natural it's instinctive to me - if I don't watch closely (and I don't even notice I'm paying attention) to my overlapping and feathering off while filing, its ruined just as fast. So yes, turning it to avoid flat spots; keeping your strokes consistent numerically and pressure applied also - to me it's a common sense thing and I just figure everyone knows how to file or can read minds!!

just a guess, but I'll bet dollars to donuts that WOG invented CSM after trying to re-weave woven!! Been fighting small pieces all afternoon trying to make little gussets for P&S stringers... lol maybe pics when done... maybe not hahahaa

you and me both!!! Like said earlier about my skill set, glass isn't included yet... maybe never? Don't have the patience, too much welding.... Anyway, kinda globbed overkill... figured easier for me to cut excess tomorrow - will see
http://

csm/24/csm/24/csm on sides - csm/24/csm over 1/3 of 3" PVC in centers - keel only PVC the same.

stuffed a wad of plastic in PVC... and will see how ridiculous that was  In hindsight, could have run the PVC out and trimmed that back, but would probably still have some touch up?
Not concerned about closing the rat hole up some because I've refigured the floor....
Those stringer voids will be filled last with Seacast provided I'm not light, shouldn't be. Will fill with PB if so, just trying to save glass

woke up to the sound of thunder, how far off, I didn't wonder.....!!! Dagnab! this beast is tongue heavy without the motor... been that way and seems like every other day, I do the garage shuffle. Was supposed to be decent this weekend, waiting on Monday now.
Just thinking out loud... when was I going to pour the transom?:lol:
it's the journey, not the destination.... but sure do want to go fishing!!!

Soon!! real soon... just getting ducks in a row....
Adding below deck drainage has resulted in refiguring a LOT! Am considering the last 18" of floor deck to be at an angle close to main gusset and styrofoam underneath - non-factory edges to be torched to retard crumbling or paint?? Need to be far enough along to decide on exactly how/where sump will be; and t/t pump. Might need go ahead pour and get the motor on, but it sure has been nice not working around it.
That's some the problem, should I this should I that....... not wanting to commit to something until I'm absolutely convinced

as you've seen, I like things heavy lol, but how heavy is Seacast compared to wood? I have the old 1/2" transom reinforcement board already glassed over and am thinking of using it for rear deck - will be tabbed to inner skin, keel gusset, gunwales, and deck. Can save a few pounds with 1/4" board, but means more glass for it

Uhmm Yeah, you're for sure having some issues. Lets see if I can help a bit. Make sure to wet the surface first with resin. Lay the glass down into the resin and then use a cheap chip brush and dip it into the resin and then DAB and POKE the CSM into the resin to force the resin up from the bottom into the CSM. Once it gets wet you can brush it a little bit or use a short nap nylon roller to roll it. This will keep all those spider web fibers from lifting and making a mess. Try this and see if it helps some.

thanks guys!! But the issues I'm having are mostly with me  Can't help getting *** (four letter word, old). bent over the transom it's hard for me to work glass. Just figured I'd have touch up anyway.... Might could have made a jig for those, but.... They're gonna get capped after Seacast and can straighten out as I go... Grinder and drill can do, just didn't want to get frustrated trying to glass there.
http://
My back is already sore from pulling it in and out today; have to roll it all back this evening :rain::rain: have a tarp but just don't trust it
It's coming out OK, but wish I had spent a few bucks on some wax! lol old McGuire's scratch remover :brick:

edit___ in the time it took to post, it started raining; guess the Universe is telling me to rest lol

thanks! 2funny!! and wishing a Happy Easter on your end as well !!
and I've kinda felt like most people miss the artistic expression in "I'm Your Captain". Not going to write a paper here lol, but to me it's about the human endeavor and the pursuit of happiness. Closer to home, return me to my home port, port of my birth - all matters of the heart - take my ship away from me is taking hope.

the old joke, yea.. that's the song where he keeps getting closer but never gets there lol. Funny, maybe? But that's not it; perseverance, longing, yearning to be free again, never giving up. The stranger is sometimes ourselves; we are strangers to self because we don't know ourselves or that we are the ones choking ourselves (cars, mortgages, etc are physical trappings but there are emotional trappings as well).
have to stop!!!! really could write a paper
Pardon my philosophical rantings!! spent way too many years under a welding hood!!

getting back to those gussets, maybe needs no explanation? but I used the same green board? I used for main gusset jig. I made "em the size I wanted for the gussets and didn't wrap cloth because I have to remove green whatever it is. And the green gives me a line to cut and have good glass. Fit to PVC and stuffed them with plastic to keep majority of runoff out.

It's a pain (tedious) to remove all the excess, but figured it easier for "me" to do them that way. Just saying my boat and trailer weigh about a ton w/o motor, batteries, and gas - mostly on the tongue now with 60 series 14's that might need air   It's killing me lol
They are coming out OK but doubt I'll be able to work 'em until Monday or later.

Ahh Man, My all time Favorite Band...GFR!!!!! :clap2::rockon:
yessir!!! I can't pick a favorite though.... ELO, ELP, BTO, YES, CCR, CSNY or just CSN - it's early and haven't had my coffee and BC lol
nothing fancy around here, have an older Sony surround sound with two big Kenwoods inside and wires running out to garage. Two Sonys on a shelf 7' high - speakers are upside down for better sound.
Upside down is the way to go indoors for some speakers, especially for floor speakers; JS for those that don't know

let me be realistic for a minute; I know, should have been all along  at 15' 4" in length with a 5' beam, I can't put enough horsepower on this transom to justify what I've done and am doing. It's all overkill even by my standards.
And I'm not going to port these like you would for a small block!!
http://

clean 'em up some and done!! Really paying for not going half a mile to buy some wax. Removing old transom was almost easier than those two gussets.

I count this as one gusset - other side the same
