Hey Everyone. Well it was a great day.. Beautiful and sunny out. Got up early and sanded all day...

Not too much for pics. But I started with 60 grit and went all the way around, then a pass with 80 grit. Then epoxy filler on the dents, nicks, scratches, chips etc. Also filled the slices that I did when tearing out. I patched everything up on the inside already so it was just fairing on the outside. Will have to let the filler sit for a couple days as I will be busy at work and it's supposed to rain all week :(. I plan to just cover the keyhole for now since there is no holes or anything in the hull for water to get it.

That is ok right?

Hey looks great Dezi.
I think you’re fine to leave it that way. Even if some rain got in should be no issue

I would be careful about using epoxy, if you are going to use a polyester gelcoat over it. Make sure to wet sand the epoxy areas with soap & water to get rid of any 'blush' from the epoxy.

Hahahahhahaha. Ya me too! Going better than I thought. Not really any major damage at all on the bottom for its age. Planning to roll in interlux 2000e primer maybe this week or weekend. See how the weather goes. Then another sand with 220 and I’m thinking bright red. Maybe white. Dunno yet ?

Well decided to go and sand the putty tonight. That stuff is nice to work with. Watertite from interlux 2 part epoxy putty. Mixes nice, applies great and sands pretty good. Filled all the scratches, chips etc very good. Got it almost all sanded before the thunderstorms and rain come. Plan to order my primer tomorrow so I have it ready for this week or weekend. Been reading up and it says approx 5 coats. I’m going to use interlux InterProtect 2000E primer. Then single part briteside. Being in Canada we can’t get the 2 part. I’m sure it will be fine. Will get pics posted when we prime the hull throughout the process.

dez use a ball peen hammer and check along the strakes, they seem to be hollow spots on trophy hull light tapping will tell you where they are and you can fix them now instead of later.

the lifting strakes on bottom, right where they 90 on bottom of bayliners seem to have a ton of hollow spots, just tap lightly and you can hear difference drill and fill so they dont become a problem:)

Well decided to go the tremclad route. A big difference in price to what you need for interlux. So hoping this weekend to get a few coats of primer on then decide what colours to use. Was thinking red and white but not sure. Then I will block sand the primer before I put the colour on. Roll and tip colour correct? And just roll primer right?

Thanks Everyone for tips and advice.

Last of the putty is done and sanded on the bottom. Just washed the whole thing with the boy. Will let that dry overnight and do a once over this weekend with 80grit on any shiny spots then wipe down and lay 2 or 3 coats of primer. Going with Tremclad so wish me
luck. Still undecided on “how” to pay out the red and white on the bottom. Hope to get some input 😳. Will get pics and post more over the weekend.

Hey guys. I’m getting ready to prime the hull today. Need to know something please. After first coat of primer, how long do I wait to apply second coat and do I need to sand before second coat?

I did 2 fairly thick coats of primer about 24 hrs apart with a light sand in between with 80 grit
primer was straight out of the can
then same with colour 2 coats sanded with 80 grit lightly.
colour was WOGs tractor paint recipe 👍

Yes. I paint all the time. I painted all my vehicles I drive now. Any paint or primer is like that.

I have done patch work. Fixing rust and dents. Primer color coat and then clear like that. Yes primer is very forgiving. Once it flashes paint right over with a second coat. It don't need sanded till after more than a hour or so. Surface starts to cure and it won't stick.

If you read your paints fine print it will say the same thing.
